Real shame that this place closed down. Really enjoyed this escape game. A lot of thought into their story driven games. Played Kill MAD in the past, and both are really immersive. Hope these guys make a comeback!

Poor hosting. Not a personable experience. Didn't open and let us in at the beginning for over 10minutes.

Almost no one going there anymore. Had high hopes, but it was overpriced. Bar was a wasted space, no one was even attending the bar. Can imagine that if they had customers in and out this would have been a thriving place, but felt dead. As a party of 2, we were being rushed through the game. No one was behind us to play, so could have allowed us an extra 5mins to finish the game. Even have the cheek to charge for photos. Nonsense... I understand they probably have high costs, but a real let down. I played their previous games for Time Run in East London. This place pales in comparison.

First of all, this room was EXTREMELY HOT. There was no ventilation, or air-con, except for one fan in one of the rooms. We went in the evening and it was still hot.

The game itself was fairly different and there were a nice arrangement of puzzles to clear. Some puzzles were excessively long which didn't need to be, and one puzzle you couldn't hear back yourself, so you're left wondering whether you've done it right or not..

There were a few red herrings that put you off in the game, which I feel was unnecessary. One of the final puzzles was not working which was explained to us was due to the heatwave, which was a real shame.

The room also felt very dated, worn out, in need of an upgrade, and cleaning as there was a lot of dust gathered in places.

Game starts off well and contained a good range of puzzles. The props are well incorporated into the room.

It all has an innocent, fun feel to it until the ending, when it gets a bit peculiar and farfetched. If they kept the storyline, like it was at the beginning, a humorous chip shop with maybe a small yet funny twist, then I would've scored it higher.

The host and the clue system is fun, as they put a bit of humor and interact with you, which is in keeping with the "initial" theme.

In my humble opinion, if there were a few tweaks to the story and the way it ends (i.e. final third) in keeping a nice fun theme, then I would put this more to being a great room.

poor hosting

Some puzzles were not clear, i.e you could interpret it different ways, and one was not named so you couldn't be sure that was one of them, to put it vaguely without saying too much.

The room was really dark and made it hard to see. Sure, that was to keep it within theme, but the torches were not bright enough.

The speakers were really hard to hear in the game. Especially since they give you instructions for what we needed to do next, it seems pretty important. For Cursed Water, and to be "in theme" you would think this voice would be bellowing out and filling out the whole room

There is a video at the beginning which tells you the do's and don'ts of the game, but it lasted about 40secs, and seemed pointless. It could have been written down on a sheet of paper instead.

The host seemed uninterested. More of a get-in, get-out, picture and go attitude. Didn't ask us anything, or converse with us after we finished.

I've played better rooms, and more immersive games, that this room, along with the hosting, was a quite a let down.

Not one of my favourite escape games. The room is well put together with some interesting puzzles, but there are way too many padlocks to call it original. Kids and family friendly. Would class as a beginner level escape game.

It's quite hit and miss when it comes to having live actors in escape games. Fortunately, we have a great host, who did an impressive job. He certainly helped to bring that uneasy, tense atmosphere to the game. Some puzzles we managed to brisk through, others we stumbled for quite a bit.

If you're a fan of rooms which have a creepy, tense atmosphere and don't mind having a live actor, then this is a room to try.

originalcleverquite difficult

This room was recommended to us to play, but in my honest opinion, it did not live up to what it was hyped up to be.

The concept is quite clever and something I've not seen before in any other escape game, but I was expecting a bit more from the execution. To say that it we'd be "transported to impossible places and experience one of the craziest twists in escape room history" is quite an overstatement. It felt a bit underwhelming, especially halfway into the game.

Some of the puzzles were fairly difficult. We needed a few clues to get us through. In particular, there was one puzzle we were stuck on one for what felt like an eternity, but managed to crack it after staring at it for a long time, and resisted the clue.

Ok, it was a box room, black chalk board, desks, projectors and many other props, but that was what was so great about it too. It really brought us back to as if we were in school. There was such a nostalgic feel to this room, that made it really fun to play. Usually I would want an escape game to really take me to another place as if I wasn't in a room, but this really fitted the theme.

Puzzles were fun to find and solve. The GM was really great at hosting and really played the part.

Would recommend this room, but in particular, to anyone who went to school in the 80s/90s.

Would love to try out their other games if we get a chance to come back!

I was blown away at the scale of this room and the way it has been constructed to immerse you in this 'escape'. It's incredibly atmospheric the moment you start the game, and exciting and epic all the way until the end.

The host was so in character and the Escapement team here are honestly one of the passionate hosts I've ever met. Super engaging and you can tell they love doing this.

The game stands out, the puzzles are wonderfully crafted, some things in this room I've never seen before in other escape games.

This was one of my favourite games I've played in Kent during our trip and a must-try if you've not played before

This room had a huge amount of potential but ultimately we were left quite disappointed.

The puzzles were very long, and "samey", by that, I mean once you know what you need to do, you have to do the same thing again and again in order to solve it. Because it was set in a museum, there felt like a lot of red herrings, which completely threw us off. Items in desks which looked like personal belongings, which we didn't know whether they were part of the game or not.. lots of museum props you're unsure whether you need to use to solve... As the scape game mentions, there is an element where you're outside, which we initially thought would be a really interesting element, but I was hugely disappointed that it was pretty much just to take you to another room. There are a LOT of steps to navigate too!

What was really frustrating was the communication system with the GM. It was through a walkie-talkie system, which does not go well, especially when you cannot hear what they are saying. We could even sense that the GM was getting quite annoyed having to repeat what they were saying.

One plus point though was the views you get from the top of the tower over Canterbury.

We had a high expectation coming into it because of the setting, but really didn't enjoy this compared to their other escape rooms.

We had Matt again to host us for this game, and he is a superb host.

Set in an actual prison tower and incorporating bits of history and historical props was amazing to see and experience in an escape game.

The puzzles do feel relatively similar, and you go from one padlock to another, but nonetheless I still enjoyed this room, and what it delivers.

Its fantastic that they are able to take an original WWII comms room, and turn it into an escape game, and aligning puzzles as close as they could to this. That made the experience all the more immersive. It also got intense as you hear a sound and immediately rush to the scene. There a a nice story to it all and easter eggs throughout the room, that makes it really fun. The host, Matt, was smashing GM! I feel he could double as a TV game show host he was that great, entertaining and engaging. It definitely helped elevate and add to the experience.

hi-tech

I can see why it was called the Asylum and how it links to an escape game, and the way that the room was presented was clever.

I do like the way that when you enter the room, you have to find the puzzles as not many rooms do that.

The theme, though, to me, didn't fit that at all. The poster even shows a chair, someone in a jacket, and an eerie light, but the room is nothing like that.

And what I find quite disappointing is that the GM literally tells us the whole objective, what to do, and what we will see in the room - when you go in, it looks like 'this' and that we need to obain 'this' to do 'this' so you can escape.. It would have been better that we find that out in the game, maybe a message was left behind, so that it gives us the element of surprise and discovery.

Unless I missed this, there's no character or story to tell, just you have to escape an asylum. It would have been more epic to put some of us in (loose) straitjacket for example, padlocked so that we need to get out of, just something(!) to make it worth calling it an asylum and make it more fun. Otherwise, I feel as though it should just be a futuristic space ship theme instead. Given the tech it would have made a bit more sense.

In the end, we finished the room feeling a bit disappointed that there was more that this room could offer.
