*POTENTIAL SPOILERS*

Now, this room has been mentioned to me a few times, as one of the most intense, scary experiences out there in terms of escape rooms. This is wrong, we got a few bits of tapping, and a lot of random darkness. This, was unfortunately, overhyped. Which, isn't the rooms fault, I appreciate.

However, what was the rooms fault was the lack of content within it. I counted 5 locks. The puzzles we easy (I appreciate we're an experienced team, but still), we were slowed down by bits of random darkness, which I HATE, it doesn't make sense, in my opinion it is literally the host saying we're going to fast, let me turn the lights out so you have to stand around doing nothing until they come back on, thats very frustrating.

*AGAIN SPOILERS*

There was parts of the game where we were split up from each other, but at one point, we had to leave a person handcuff and chained behind for a number of minutes, considering this person paid to be part of this experience, that seems like a waste of money on their part, even more so that the reason we were sent to a different part of the game was to go and solve a puzzle that we had already done earlier in the game, the host did try and cover this with explaining we did a few things quickly so didnt realise, but, at the same time, the puzzle they thought we needed to do, the solution was by our sacrificed friend anyway, so there was no need to go back, thus proving, it was just another, let's slow them down, type of thing. Not great.

REALLY disappointing. I have spoken to a lot of people who said when they played it under it's original owner, it was a great experience and really creepy, and they were surprised when I said it was one of the most disappointing escape rooms i've played.

Don't believe any hype. It seems to have been left to rot.

The puzzles weren't difficult, and a few times, we were just given items that would help us out through holes in the walls, not even something we could work out, just, heres the answer.

Real shame if im honest, and at £100, to be out in less than half an hour? Well, I felt ripped off.

We were warned. Scary Room. Live Actor.
The group before us cried, apparently.
...this was over hyped and made our experience worse.

I'm going to start by saying the hosts were just doing what they were told and working with what they had...but it was because of this, why our experience was bad.

We were eventually led to start our game, again, being warned that it is REALLY scary, we entered the room with caution...eventually there was nothing to fear so we proceeded....
However...now, this, this is where the experience was ruined, and Houdinis SWEAR this is the best way to do things...all they have to do is....look at ANY other escape room to realise they are WRONG....the host kept coming into the games to ask us if we needed help and see where we were up to....
Shouldn't you be watching the game? You should KNOW where we're up to, and also....dont ruin our immersion by keep showing up.
We said no, EVERY time we were asked if we needed help...but we got help any way, and at one point....he just gave us the answer to something....now....I don't want to claim this, but we got out in 35 minutes....which is a ridiculous time....considering the outrageous price we paid (even on half price Tuesdays) to play, we felt like we were forced through the game....could this be because we were the only group in on the last slot of the day? I'd say yes, but obviously I dont know....but giving answer to us when we already said we didnt want help makes me feel like im right.

The room itself was....ok.....I mean not scary, but creepy, and the puzzles were....alright. Sort of made sense, except one at the begining that made us do something in a weird order that is not signposted to do so, so we had to guess....or luckily, help came in and told us exactly how to do it despite only spending a couple of minutes trying to work it out.

All in all, a bad experience, and everyone I spoke to about Houdinis says the same thing....
all the negatives are the same, and the positive are just 'alright'.
Surely...please god....you want to improve that and keep people coming back. There's one more room for us to play there as we played two in one day...but...we wont be.... I know a lot of people who said they wont be back at Houdinis too....so....can't just be me, right?

Sorry, I appreciate I sound sour.....but it was a LOT of money, more than Enigma that's just down the room, and have way better quality rooms, and £50 cheaper all week, not just on half price Tuesdays..... It would have cost us £300 for 6 of us to play on a normal day....compared with £99 for Enigma....or anywhere else....

Sorry, but not good! Has potential, but needs a lot of work.

We played this as a last minute game before a theatre show, and I have to say, they were very accommodating, changing the start time for us to ensure we made the show on time.

We were met by our host after going up....a LOT of stairs. We were given the usual briefs and then we were in the room.

I am NOT a fan of horror rooms, and the only reason we chose this room was because it was highly rated on here, although I think we'll be back to play the others, they sound great.

Nice creepy setting, I would say that this game wasn't full on jump scary horror, but I believe they can ramp it up or tame it down depending on players preference.

The room flowed very well, the puzzles seems easy to us, but maybe we just got lucky with this room and our ability.
I think the balance between puzzles and 'scares' was very good. More puzzles than scares, which as I pay for the puzzles, suits me to the ground.

The theming was great and worked well with the room, and nothing seemed out of place. There was a storyline about memories that I didn't really understand, but it didnt hinder the game play.

If you're looking for a creepy room that isn't too scary, then this is one for you.

I believe our host was Courtney (apologies if I got that wrong) but she was a great host, funny, and gave us a great experience. So thank you to her.

...yet again Enigma have absolutely SMASHED it out the park. We were lucky to be the second group to play this game, and, wow! Simply WOW!
A great mix of puzzles for all the family, we played as four adults, but still LOVED it and found it had so many 'wow' moments. The set design is simply amazing, it seemed to take them a while to build it, but now I have seen it, I understand why, and it's well worth the wait.
It has EVERYTHING you expect it to have from the story, with some nice little extras thrown in.
Mark my words, this room is going into the top 50 for 2024. It's simply a MUST PLAY!

A nice room this one. A bit dark in places, but you're in a gold mine, so it's expected, and also...there was plenty of lanterns scattered around.

A nice mix of puzzles, traditional and interactive, theming was great and the set was on point too. Some nice little 'ahha' moments throughout the game.

Brilliant hosting by Nikki, very chatty and fun to be with, making the experience that little bit better.

We'll be back to play their new room soon.

What we have here ladies and gentlemen, is not an escape room, but an escape experience, like no other I have played before. Really clever, and from the VERY start, and by that I mean, from the door to the building opening, we were in the experience. Our Host led us to a space where we had our brief, this took longer than usual briefs, but honestly, I wish every game brief was like this, I will not be giving away spoilers, but amazing. We were then lead to our room, where the escape rooms puzzles began, but the experience element didn't end.

Now when I first met Tom, the owner (LOVELY guy) he promised me that this room would involve actual magic (not Harry Potter spells and potions, ACTUAL magic) and I'm not ashamed to say, I turned into a little kid, as there was magic, now obviously I'm not spoiling anything here, their website tells you that live magic is seamlessly woven into this room, and it really is seamless. Now the on the surface, the puzzles aren't necessarily anything that people who have played a lot of rooms wont struggle with, nothing is over complicated, or too challenging, but the way they are all set up, one flowing into the next, is really great, and like I say, the magic element, makes this room an absolutely MUST play experience.

What I will say is, if you do book. Allow yourself to turn into back into a child for a bit, be amazed by what happens, and don't try to work out the 'secrets' to anything, just enjoy it, and you'll get the most out of this experience.

Thank you Tom, our host. You have given us a truly unique (at least from what I have seen) escape experience, and I don't think anyone will be able to match this.

Yeah, this is amazing.

Did it for my stag do. Cannot complain about this, the themeing was JUST out of the tv show, the host was so entertaining and very funny, and just kept us hyped throughout (it was the Spice Girl - whoever you are madam, thank you for making our visit great). The puzzles were fun, and we all laughed at each other constantly, some took it WAAAAAY too seriously, others not seriously enough, but still, amazing time from beginning to end.

Although I dont think this should count as an escape room, it does deffo have that feel to it all.

Played both rooms here (that they currently have). Enjoyed both, this was the standard sort of taken hostage type of room, nothing new in the style, but some interesting things in the room that I hadn't seen before. Clever stuff, and some stuff that is simple to do, but had a big pay off. This room didn't flow as well for us, but thats not the rooms fault, that was us (we played back to back so our mind was already fried). Will deffo be coming back to play the next rooms.

Really enjoyed this, there is no cat swinging happening in this room, but as a team of two, it didn't matter, but bigger groups keep this in mind.

The room was great, from the theming outside of the room and then throughout. The puzzles were clever, silly (as in Wonderland type of silliness) and fun. We tripped up over a few silly things, but ultimately everything made sense and we both had fun.

A couple of sensory puzzles too which is always really nice.

Our host was lovely too, very sweet and clearly enjoyed the game.

Family friendly room a good soundtrack and a chance to be a pretty good room, but felt like things were just randomly thrown together, its non linear which to me always suggests you can't be bothered to think of a flow of the room, and one REALLY frustrating puzzle at the end that didn't fit the theming, and was eventually told how to cheat it (whats the point then?).

Like I say, chance to be a good room, but felt a bit 'meh' after playing it. My opinion of course.

Well, well, well....Beverley Breakout have done it again.
Absolutely smashed it out the bark* with this one.  (dog pun)

This was my 6 year olds first escape room, and he LOVED it, as did we, (but we always do when we go here). It's a shame that Escape the Review only allows three tags, because Beautiful, original, funny, clever, immersive, story-driven, magical would all be ticked as well.

I cant believe this is a temporary room. This is built up like its there permanently, and despite it being a Christmas themed room, the magic was not lost when we played it in February. The puzzles made sense, the flow was perfect, there were challenges, there were easy wins, there was some comedy, it was just perfect.

Honestly, if you get chance to play this room before it disappears, I PROMISE you, you will NOT be disappointed.

As always our hosts, Fran and Meyah, made us very welcome, and is always really great to chat to them afterwards. It's clear they have a great passion for the games.

Thank you for giving us yet another great experience.

From arrival, this was a bad set up. Now, allow me to make this clear, I do NOT blame the staff, they are clearly undertrained, and over run (I blame the owners for this).

We had a room booked for 6pm. We showed up at 5:45pm to be told there was still someone in our room with 20 minutes left on the clock, so we went into this room late. The brief wasn't great, and after it happened we were told to watch a video which basically repeated the information that was already told.

The theming was pretty good to be fair. Credit where its due, it was good and expected, at times a bit too busy, but that is a personal preference. You'll note I suggested this game was dangerous, lots of loose wires, and screws just poking out of things. Not very safe.

The game itself flowed fairly well, and honestly, with a bit more signposting, wouldn't be half bad. A lot of spelling mistakes on stuff, which normally doesn't matter, but we all know if absolutely does matter in an escape room.

There was a lantern in there for us to use in the dark bits of the game, didnt work, so had to resort to using our phone (which we hate) as we tried to gain the attention via camera of the staff, but gave up trying after a while.

The ending of the game didnt work. It was a place item on this sort of thing, and we tried for at LEAST 10 minutes (and asked for clues over and over, but nothing) eventually the door opened and the host was there congratulating us, why, we didnt know, but they then explained that it was broken so he had to over ride it, so time wasted there.

I've heard bad things about this company, and we still wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. We shouldn't have done.

This needs very few tweaks and a good manager to ensure its staffed correctly and it will be as good as most rooms in yorkshire. Shame really.

This room has no storyline...didn't need one. Everything made sense, but was completely random at the same time. I REALLY enjoyed this room. The flow just worked for us. We tripped up at the end, but it was just fun to play, very original (and very white). Can't really give it and credit for theming, it's a white room, thats what we got.

Host was wonderful too, we got the owner and he made us feel very welcome, and we had a bit of a chat with him too. We'll be back to play the future rooms.

It was a while ago since I played this game, so my memory of it isnt great. I do remember really enjoying it, and there are certain parts of the game that I remember thinking were really cool in terms of theming and puzzles alike.
I remember getting extremely side-tracked on something that was irrelevant, but of course, that would have been us, and not the room.

All in all, I remember it being a fun room, and would absolutely return to play more in the future.

A fun little room with puzzles that weren't too challenging, but did make us stop and think every now and then. There is some actual practical science in this room too which was extremely fun and very different from anywhere else I played.

Interesting start to the game too, which was set up slightly different as it was just two of us, but still worked fine, and then there was a puzzle in the middle of the game involving light that was fun too, and an excellent use of the space and the props.

We played Scunthorpe's other room a few months back, and we're thrilled to hear they were opening a second. Viking themed room this time. To start with, the setting is amazing, the décor is brilliant and the haze, lighting effects and smells give the room a real immersive feel.

The puzzles are fun, and nothing overly difficult. There was one thing that had us stumped for a while, but as usual, it was us overthinking something. Although the space isn't as large as most rooms, its still enough, and they have used the space they have well with set pieces and such.

Still, a nice little room, wasn't too difficult, but wasnt too easy, so a nice steady room, which meant we escaped with just under ten minutes left.

A good room, with some interesting puzzles in it. We played this one immediately after playing Outtatime which we LOVED, but we by the time we got to this room, we were flowing pretty well, and smashed through it within half an hour, but still it was enjoyable. Aspects of the ship were included, and puzzles were fine, nothing too difficult. A nice mixture of logic, and observation.
I wouldn't have gone for this theme, but we went for it as we enjoyed the previous game so much, but im glad we did, as it was a nice little game.

My absolute favourite escape room I have ever played. LOVED this room. I am a huge fan of the film franchise, so was excited anyways, however, you DONT have to be a fan to enjoy this room. It's great. With enough memorabilia and reference from the film, but none of it important to the game, so knowledge of the film isnt required.
The soundtrack of this room is great, so much so, that when we couldnt figure out the clues we'd dance for  a bit before going back to them.
EVERYTHING in this room was fun, and involved EVERYTHING I wanted, lots of things I expected, and so much more I didnt.

This was my first game in London, and LOVED it. I thought it was a fun room, it involved a lot of team work, but all the puzzles were fun. Challenging without being too difficult, all on theme, which was cartoonish, but still somehow sort of realistic. Just a good room.

very difficult

This room felt like it was difficult for difficult sake. There was many layers to each puzzle, and I personally felt like there were too many details that we had to come across to work out the story. The room looked great and the theming was great, I sort of get the idea of what they were trying to do, and it seems like it would be great, but for me (and the rest of the group) it just seemed way too difficult, and a lot of the time things became frustrating and we quickly lost the fun side of things.
I don't want to rate this too low, as i've spoken to a few people who seemed to like it, so maybe it was us? I don't know, but from the experience we had, it just felt like the designer of the game was more bothered about stopping enthusiasts escaping, rather than focusing on the fun side of things, which for me, is what its all about.

But again, I know this side of things is all subjective.

Let me start by saying, I am NOT a Sci-Fi fan, so was not expecting to enjoy this room. I am extremely happy to report, my expectations were wrong. I LOVED this room. I felt like I was on an actual Spaceship, and special shout out to the clue system, very funny and interest way of doing it.
The ending of this room is unique as well, and such fun.

The room required a lot of communication for its puzzles, and we were tripped up by ourselves not remembering what we hadn't done. There is one puzzle in here that frustrated the heck out of me personally,  but only because im rubbish at that sort of thing, luckily my friend was great.

Yeah, from start to finish, I thought this game had a nice flow, and as i've said before, proves Enigma Hull doesnt have a bad game.

Another one from Enigma that hits the mark. Again, not what I was expecting to walk into, but still had everything the story needed. A great room for any Dracula fan. This room is creepy, I feel the only thing that scared us was ourselves, the room had enough set and such to make it feel creepy without having all the jump scares to make you need clean underwear. This settles the fact that Enigma Hull does NOT have a bad game. All rooms there are fantastic, and always so immersive.

Unbelievable. This room is by far my favourite room in the Enigma chain. The beginning was not what I was expecting, but made sense with the storyline, but as you play through this room, it just gets better and better. The set is amazing too, so much so, that my friend had to keep telling me off for looking at it and not focusing on the puzzles.

Really worth playing this. So much fun, it has everything you want from the story, and so much more. Very immersive, and a great sense of adventure.

This room is a great room for new-comers of Escape rooms. Didn't quite have the wow-factor, but that's probably me being spoilt by the other rooms at Retford. Still, a good game with interesting setting. The first time I have been given an item to take in the room with me too.

The start of this room is fun, and requires a bit more communication between team mates, and once you're past that, the rest of the room is great. My first ever lock in was in this room, but that doesn't mean it'll get a negative review. Loved the room, thought there were some very clever bits, including the ending, which unfortunately we didn't get to experience ourselves, but still loved the idea. Very story driven, and immersive.

May I start this review by first saying, I hate scary rooms. I'm not a fan of being scared, or anything like that, however, despite this, the room has had amazing reviews, and I couldn't not give it a go.

The host was amazing, really set the scene, his constant nervous demeanour throughout the brief, was perfect...I mean, it made me more nervous, but still, great. Then we got into the room, it wasn't very small, but the shape and layout of the room really plays to the theme, and helps set you up for the scared feeling inside.

Now, I wont spoil this room, the things happen that you'd expect from a horror themed room, and is done in both simple and clever ways. I will say that a lot of escape rooms with horror themes usually focus on the scaring, and darkness more than the puzzles. Not the case with this room, although there was scaring and darkness, the puzzles were perfect, all different kinds, and challenging without being impossible.

We managed to escape, I have not stopped talking about this room since. I don't think I will change, and start playing more and more scary rooms, but this one was absolutely worth playing, and I understand why it has the high reviews it has.

Highly recommend.

Enigma do it again. Amazing room. I played The Heist before it closed, and this new room has opened up in this space, and already I can tell you, the Enigma team have done an amazing job converting this space. Everything looks fantastic. I had similar reactions to their Chocolate Factory, and Impact rooms in Hull, that is simply. WOW! Which, yet again, I did in this game, especially the second half. Another win for Beverley Breakout. My wife is a huge Harry Potter fan, so any chance to do a magical themed room, we take it immediately. This room was beautifully themed, with nods to Potter and other magical beings. The game flowed really well, and we were slowed down by our own stupidity. Luckily our host, Fran, clued us in at the necessary points to keep us on track and moving.

Nothing is ridiculously difficult, and this is a family friendly room. Some puzzles that I personally haven't seen before, and magic is involved too, which for a magical room, what more could you ask for.

Me and the wife loved this room, and are, and will forever be, Beverley Breakout fans.

Yeah, I like the Lock Up company. The host is always great (Liam) and friendly, and clearly works hard (as does his sidekick, his dog, Hovis).

This room was good fun, I enjoyed it very much. Our host told us something important at the beginning of the game, and for whatever reason, unbeknownst to us, we chose to ignore him, which then of course delayed us for a good ten minutes, so thats on us! But once we were clued in, we were then able to pick up the pace and found it very enjoyable.

This game is probably aimed at people who want a bit of a challenge, or the very least can show strong teamwork, as it required it for parts of the game. There were some puzzles that i've seen before but put to good use, and some that I havent seen before and thought they were so obvious for the theme, I didn't understand why I havent seen them before, but the whole game just flowed nicely and we had fun.
My only criticism would be when we played there was no soundtrack to the room, obviously this is not a requirement, but  we could hear the traffic outside and it just took you out of the story a bit, but other than than, nice little game at reasonable prices.
We will be returning.

Played: 13 Jul 2019 Team size: 4 Outcome: Successful escape!

I feel that this room was ok, and thats it. The host wasn't particularly great, but feel like they were under trained more than anything else.

The room was cluttered, and it was hard to distinguish what was and wasnt a clue, so it took us a while to get in to it. There was also a directional lock in the room that the host had to come in and help us with, and when I asked how often they had to do that, they said, with every group...that to me screams BUY A NEW LOCK! Then the ending was slightly confusing too, as we found a particular item, that was similar to others we found in the game, but this was apparently the important one, but there was nothing indicating that this was the important one, and when I questioned it, the answer was, because it was the last one we found (how were we meant to know this?).

So, they are the negatives. I feel that this game has a lot of potential, but whoever the owner is clearly has more interest in running the bar downstairs than the escape rooms, which shows.

The positives are that most of the puzzles seems to make sense once you found them, and the theming, although cluttered, made sense with the storyline.

I will say though, for a magical room...there was no magic.

Interesting room this. Essentially we went for a friends birthday, and played as two teams of 5. Both teams played the same room, but were competing against each other for time (naturally) and there was a bonus part of this game where you could knock out the power of the other teams room for 10 seconds or so. I should state, that you dont have to play this room as a large group, and the minimum is 3 I believe.

Really fun, different ideas that I havent seen before. Requires good communication and strong team work. Unfortunately, I can't remember the games master because with such a large party, we were a bit of a handful (sorry) but I dont remember anything negative, so thats a positive in my eyes.

I do want to return to this company in the future.

FAN-TASTIC room!
We got told about this room at another Enigma site (maybe Hull) and, we LOVE Enigma rooms, so decided to give it a go. YEEHAW! It's so good. Never played a cowboy/western themed room before, but this one ticked all the boxes of what I expected, and more.

The puzzle were great, some challenging, some new, I have never seen some puzzle before, but all great. The clue system was interesting too, as it came by audio clue from Whiskey Pete, the guy you're trying to help.

Can NOT recommend this game enough. I think this is currently my all time favourite escape room I have played.

This room was good fun. Enjoyed the puzzles, some clever things. Theming was nice and worked well with the storyline too. Locks wise, it was busy, lots of number locks and it was a case of find a number, try the locks, which is not terrible, but frustrating if you have worked the number out wrong.

For what it was though, I enjoyed it. I got told that some of the Escape franchises dont look after their rooms (this is my only experience with the escape franchise) but from what I saw, the room was clean, nothing was broken or worn, and i would go and play more of their rooms without hesitation.

This is currently the latest room for Enigma Doncaster, and its a great one. If you have played the other rooms at Doncaster, this one will make you say 'wow' just as you walk in.

Theming was great throughout, and some nice little bits that we didn't expect. The puzzle were challenging in some parts of the game, but easy-wins, in others. I don't think anything was unachievable though. With that said, we failed to get out, and were stuck on the last puzzle, and we were annoyed at ourselves for, because when the host, Laura, told us the solution, we could have kicked ourselves for not thinking about it.

I think the puzzles are a bit too challenging for youngsters, but its still a  family friendly atmosphere. We really enjoyed this room, and so glad we decided to play it.

So this is the easier room of Doncaster's Enigma of the four they have available, and despite the name, is family friendly (other than a bit of darkness at the beginning) Speaking to our host Nick, this seems to be the game that kids, for whatever reason, just love, and come out 'buzzing'.

For us, at this point, we'd played a few escape rooms, and the puzzle were fairly easy (probably another reason kids love it) but were not too easy, and we did get stumped on one thing for a good 10 minutes before the penny dropped. There is also one aspect of this game that I have never seen, and at time of writing this, still havent seen, in any other escape room, for those that have played it, you already know, but it was genius, and although this was another part of the game that stumped us, we certainly applauded Enigmas thinking on it.

Like I say, for enthusiasts, its probably going to be an easy game, basic build, but still clever, theming sort of irrelevant, as the storyline is you've been taken hostage and thrown in a dark room...but still works, ideal for first timers, and families that are not scared of the dark.

This was my first ever escape room, as many people say, I didn't know what to expect. At the time of playing this game, the host, Nick (whom was very witty and funny) gave us our brief, then told us to slap some blindfolds on and guided us to our room (I believe this no longer happens) he places us in the four corners of the room, and slammed the door shut, after spending a minute or so deciding if we should start the game, we took our blind folds off and had fun searching around the room.

Although some puzzle were tricky, this was a great game to start with, as it has so many different types of puzzles in there. Some easy, some difficult, but all logical, and had the typical 'ah' moment when we finally figured it out.

We had the option of asking for clues, although help was provided through tv screen when we were really stuck, we were never told how to do a puzzle, just hinting towards what we needed to do or where we needed to look, which I prefer. I hate it when a host just tells you the answer.

All in all, a great game. I know some people have hinted they don't want to play this game as the poster looks scary, but I'd say it was creepy rather than scary, but no flashing lights, no jump scares, no live actors or anything, just a great themed room with some challenging puzzles. Since we played the first time, Nick contacted us to tell us the room had been updated, and we have been back to play, and only one puzzle remained the same. So if you played it when Enigma Doncaster first opened, its worth going back to see the differences.
