Games in Reading by Escape Reading
Most recent ratings & reviews from players
Very original and although not new tech, some tech. Very clever puzzles and was fun to collect money.
What an incredible game, I could not not have given it 5 stars. It was phenomenally made with so many clever but easy puzzles. All hand made by the team at Escape Reading but extremely immersive. So many cool details to remember and be excited about, starting by the fact that the game starts as soon as you enter. I though the weird and wonderful white noise in the toilet was a great detail too.
Solid room, but with only 2 people it's really tough, some puzzles need a lot of back and forth. Best with 3 or more.
It is so hard to describe this room without giving too much away. It is superb - a great storyline, great hosting and a scope more like European rooms. Enough said, go and play it.
We played as a two but it would easily work with a bigger team
Wow!! This is such an amazing room. It begins when you ring the buzzer (arrive as a full group and don’t arrive much before your time just be there at the start time). We popped to the toilet which was part of the theming.
The game is 90 mins, the most immersive we’ve done in the uk and honestly so cool! We were blown away by the immersion and theming and the puzzles were great.
There are a lot of surprises (all good). Although the theming is scary and there is a live interaction there are zero scares or jumps it’s all just themed and id be happy to bring kids ten plus to this room (younger would struggle to follow the story and time).
Loved this and can’t wait for the next one on site - I’d be shocked if this doesn’t become one of the top in the UK.
I did not expect to love this as much as I did - this is probably threatening to be my favourite room!
What I really like about this room is that the effort taken into putting the set together is really clear to see. It's not uber detailed - it's not trying to shower you in huge amounts of props and colour. It's thoughtful and considered, and it makes it very immersive.
The puzzles are brilliant - there's a fair amount of them to do and they are varied but they are rewarding and pleasingly non-linear. The flow is great and I was buzzing by the end.
It made me very happy to see a room that makes good use of music. I have been disappointed as of late with the sheer amount of silent rooms in the UK recently. Sound is so important to immersion and energy, and this room knows it. Admittedly it is mostly pop tunes, but there are some really fun switch-ups and also certain tracks play where the lyrics are relevant to what stage of the game you are in. I really enjoyed the last one that was played when you need to escape!
A few minor niggles were that it is showing it's age and needs a bit of TLC. It sort of fits with the theme but it is overdue a little. Didn't matter much at all but was a little noticeable. Also we were waiting a while for the room to be reset and a couple of the puzzles were having technical issues. These things happen I guess - nevertheless our host was great and was doing a stellar job - he managed to get the puzzles back and up running in good time while giving us a bit extra time to compensate.
Just really clever and an absolute blast from start to finish. A real enthusiasts joy!
FANTASTIC! This has got to be in my top games I have played and what a brilliant game to play for my 90th ever game.
They are sure correct when they say the experience starts as soon as you enter the building (luckily they still allow you to use facilities first) but yes you enter into the Village of Quietmere straight away. After a clever and different little briefing, the game began and the immersion was there from the get go. I'm not usually a fan of games with live actors or scary rooms and whilst this wasn't particularly scary, having the games master actually popping up and being part of the game was a first and I really loved it. The puzzles were a good mixture of padlocks, tactile puzzles and automated mechanisms and the whole time I felt fully immersed in the setting and story. Without giving too much away, from very early on we experienced some really clever parts to this game that we havent come across before. The themeing and attention to detail was brilliant throughout and you can clearly tell a lot of time and consideration has gone into the design and build of this 90 minute game. We completed the objective with 4 minutes to spare as a team of three players and at the end had a great chat with our host about the game itself and how it has compared to other experiences, but like I said, this one is definitely up there as one of my top 10. Thank you and congratulations Escape Reading on an amazing game!
Brilliant room, we had a great time. Immersive from the moment you arrive, with great design, so many great little touches and brilliant hosting. I think we forgot there was a time limit, we were just having fun! Can’t wait to play the next room now!
Just to note that this isn’t a scary room, though some children might find one aspect a bit creepy. We can’t do scary rooms but we had no problem at all with this one.
We have done all of Escape Reading's rooms and was so excited to see they had built a this new room.
WOW is all we can say! Just when we thought they couldn't top their current rooms! This 'room' was amazing! So many unique parts and fun puzzles and fantastic Hosting!
The minds behind their builds really are amazing. Great work once again Escape Reading!
This was such a fun room! The puzzles were really creative and fit the theme perfectly. The immersion from the get go was also excellent. Highly recommend!
What an absolutely brilliant room. From the moment you enter, you are fully immersed. Fantastic hosting, clever tech, super puzzles - this is an absolute ‘must do’ room. Best room we’ve done for a very long time!
A solid very satisfying room. The host Jacob was brilliant and clearly passionate about escape rooms.
We agreed the scare level would be atmospheric and scary with no jump scares - this was perfect and immersive and meant given we are wimps post the reading witch that we could concentrate on puzzles.
The room is padlock based in a very fun way - really immersive and we managed with just one tiny hint. It was as a result very satisfying, certainly not easy but fun to decode all the puzzles whilst having lots of immersive atmosphere
Definitely recommend it for duos.
Good scary atmosphere though out in this game with some nice placed jump scares
Your allways on your toes thinking someone is in the room with you lol
Some fun puzzles and things to do
Great hosts
Great game with a good collection of different styles of puzzles and games
Good theming that immerses you in to the story some nice unique and original things to do In this escape room
A lot to do for 2 people
Great bank robbery style game which you have 60mins to get as much money as you possible can back in to the van you come in before the police turn up
Some Great puzzles and ideas in this game very enjoyable
Great host even explained all the things we missed at the end
Recommend good fun
Played Blown Away with a new group of friends and had a great time. Fantastic hosting from our friendly and enthusiastic games master, and a successful escape with just over 10 mins left on the clock. We worked our way through the variety of physical puzzles (no padlocks may I add), activated the 'extended version' of the game and deactivated the bomb whilst enjoying our time inside.
We loved this room! It was pretty and gentle and beautifully decorated. Everything flowed really nicely from one puzzle to the next and there were some good magical effects. The puzzle were a good mix and everything was quite hands on which we like in a puzzle. It was quite straightforward and we finished in 43 minutes having done all the extra puzzles and needing no clues.
Almost as good as the room was the host. He was so passionate about escape rooms and gave us some great, personal recommendations of other rooms to play in the local area. When we mentioned we have gone abroad to play some of the Terpeca list he gave us another set of recommendations around Europe as well! Really helpful and friendly
As a team of 4, we had mixed feelings about a scary room (2 of us are absolute wimps), but we all enjoyed it! We did it at the scary level, and thought this brought such an ambience and atmosphere to the room; it was great. Our host Tabbie was fantastic!
We enjoyed the variety of puzzles in this room. We've done most of the other rooms by Escape Reading, and we love how the puzzles in each room all differ. It makes it all new and interesting, and we recommend coming to do all of their rooms!
Another great room by Escape Reading!
This game was good fun; we all enjoyed the layout and concept of this room, and there was a good variety of puzzles that catered to everybody, allowing us to work together and individually throughout the game.
We enjoyed the fact that there was an additional room you couldn't access but could see into, so it was a different way to look/search and collect information compared to actually going into and searching a room.
The music and atmosphere were great and really made you feel immersed in the story. Lara, our host, was great at getting us all set with the story and making some of us feel like we might just get kidnapped during it!
We enjoyed this escape room; we thought it was original, and the layout was great! We liked that puzzles crossed over back into areas you had been in before.
Aster was a good host and helped get us all set to rob the bank! We found it an original room and we all had so much fun doing it.
However, it's worth noting that it's an escape room where you accumulate points/money (aiming to collect all the possible cash in the bank) and have until the end of the 60 minutes to do so.
This was one of the best rooms we've been to recently!
The hosting was fab, shoutout to Tom, who set the feel for the room from the get-go. Once we entered the room, you could immediately tell there was so much thought and creativity in the design; we all felt so immersed from start to finish.
There was a good variety of puzzles, meaning we could split up into smaller teams, or work all together, whatever was more fitting for the puzzles we came across. We were told afterwards that they can remove puzzles for more inexperienced teams, so it's a great option for those of varying experience.
Overall, we'd highly recommend this to anyone looking to do an Escape room with great room design and a magical feel. We couldn't stop talking about it for the rest of the day!
A vast range of puzzles, which is great, and something for every type of thinker.
However, the second part of the room can feel a little busy, and the immersion somehow seems to stop at the point. But all things considered, a good room.
One of my favourite escape rooms that I’ve done. Several surprises. Lots of puzzles al logical and plenty for both of us to get on with. Dan was a fantastic host really got us immersed - I believed it was possible we had been kidnapped. Not scary as such but definitely some elements that might scare children.
Definitely recommend this one. The team are super helpful this is the second time we’ve booked last minute and had lovely accommodating staff.
Our Seventh escape room and one we decided to try based on a lot of good reviews and feedback from others.
We were 15 minutes early and met by our host Owen who asked if we wanted to get cracking so we said yes and made a start. After a brief intro we entered the cave and the story started to play out, the scenery and aesthetics of the rooms were superb and really felt like we were in a cave as well as the other rooms looking great and fitting in with the story.
The puzzles had a good amount of variety to them and allowed some of them to be soloed with some requiring more teamwork and communication than others, overall we felt that there was a very good mix of puzzles, some skill some logical and one or two mental ones. The puzzles though were not overly difficult and fairly easy to solve but fun nonetheless.
There are very few negatives we can think of, the main one being that the story kind of gets lost and there is no reminder or additions to the story it is told at the start and that’s it.
Asides from that it’s hard to knock the game and the overall feeling is that it is very enjoyable and certainly family friendly, great if you love magic, potions and spells.
We had a great time and will be back to try other games here!
This is one of the escape rooms that you always succeed which some people enjoy although we prefer escape rather than a changeable prize pot.
All that said it’s a really fun room really well done with many many puzzles to solve and lots for any team to get on with. Very enjoyable.
This room advertises as for 3 or more and I’m not sure if they adjust it when it’s just 2 but it was very enjoyable as 2 and they were very accommodating to our last minute booking.
It’s very immersive and you quickly get into the zone. There are also some surprise rooms. Puzzles are logical and we could solve them with only a couple of prompts throughout the game.
The room was rather warm on a hot summers day so worth bearing in mind! It is also very dark initially if I were the games master I’d give some sort of additional light as they are clear you cannot touch your phone and as we are not young anymore our eyes actually struggled with some puzzles in the dark.
Great game with an original design and concept! A lot to do for a team of 2 in the full version but our highlight of the day at escape Reading!
I've wanted to play this for a while and had been recommended it by a few people...it did not disappoint! A truly magical and immersive game with some clever and unique puzzles, I had a lot of fun playing this one. The attentions to detail and the logic behind some of the puzzles show a lot of time has been out into the games build. There were a couple of instances where we solved things with a bit of fluke but also need a couple of hints in the correct direction for some of the puzzles. We also solved a bonus puzzle which added to the magical feel of this room. Without giving too much away, there are lots of interactive parts, special effects and some wow moments. I would definitely recommend playing this room. I've done a couple of wizard/magic themed rooms now and this is up there with one of my favourites (and bare in mind I've done around 70 rooms). Also, I liked that it wasn't just another remake of a Harry Potter kind of game. It was more magic, not wizard school. Thank you to Tabby, our games master, who was friendly and chatty before and after the game and got a great group shot of us on completion of the game. It always helps when you have an enthusiastic GM who is passionate about the game and their role.
We had a great time in this escape room! Thanks also to our host Essie who was lovely!
An interesting escape room with a logical story and interesting clues, our host Lara was very nice and made sure we all had a good time.
A very nice game. Lots of puzzles. Built up towards the end really well too.
Elaborate set and nice game. Perhaps a little tired now? One clue held us up, but generally a very good level
Really amazing room.
So much tech and incredible set.
Definitely a shame that it’s going.
I’m a coward so I found this very scary but great
A very cool room, some really clever puzzles, lots of physical tasks, and not a single padlock to be found! Choice of a hard or easy version too (we played easy but were shown hard after hence the difficult rating!).
Only criticism is the last puzzle; the whole group thought it could do with a bit of a revamp as we easily spent 10 minutes on it.
Amazing room with so much inside, the best I’ve ever played for sure and certainly deserving of all those awards. Everything is so clever and well designed, the room is fully immersive and always throws something new at you. Hosting also great from the get-go!
Decent room, not as good as their other rooms, but enjoyable

Having just come out of Ram Raid this is so difficult to judge.
It is a stunning room, visually the most stunning room we have done - younfelt transported to another world. It felt the polar opposite to Ram Raid, instead of a mad dash puzzle hunt it felt like an immersive experience with the some puzzles along the journey.
Maybe our brains were tired but we definitely struggled with the odd logic leap and found one bit of 'broken' tech (maybe it was us that was broken). It didn't detract from an excellent room and we would still apply recommend (after Ram Raid which is a family favourite now)
I really shouldn't rate this as highly as I do, it's so hard to compare escape rooms and I often wonder whether I should be scoring on gameplay, immersion, theme/decor, hosting or more.
As soon as you enter the room you feel like you're in a bank. It's not other worldly exciting but impressively realistic. From that point onwards there are a lot of things that break immersion, notes from the gamemaster telling you to be careful not to break things, clues that are clearly puzzles and not in theme. And that should make it not a top tier escape room......
But it doesn't. It's a puzzle lovers dream. You know you are in a game and it feels like it. Puzzles are being thrown at you left right and centre, every type of puzzle you can imagine is included. A live scoreboard keeps the adrenaline running and when you think you are getting near the end you realise it's really only the start. The puzzles are non linear so groups can split but there are plenty of puzzles that need more than one person and constant communication is key. There is so much detail that you miss at first glance but all puzzles are so well signposted and no need for logic leaps, we needed 2 clues but they were both us being silly rather than a confusing puzzle.
We loved it from start to finish and my son (7 and on his 18th room) hasn't stopped talking about it since. It has instantly gone into out top 3 of over 25 rooms (number 1 for our son)
Some great technology (which all worked) and was genuinely impressive.
Whether this style of game is to your tastes or not is a personal matter - of our family, half preferred Age of Magic, whereas half preferred Ram Raid. They both have exceptional build quality, attention to detail, a good variety of puzzles, some surprises, and excellent hosting. My one criticism is that some areas of the room were a little dimly-lit, which could cause issues for players. We let the kids solve those puzzles - I don't know if there was another workaround available.
There's loads of attention to detail in the construction of some impressive set pieces, as well as many more subtle details - things like the dynamic music soundtrack and the thematic scoring and timekeeping system. There's lots of clever tech but it's so well-integrated and worked flawlessly that it was only in the post-game walk-through (which are always appreciated) that our excellent GM Thom pointed them out to us. There's lots to do, varied puzzles and, on the few occasions that our team needed a little guidance, he was very responsive to help.
Our family team of 2 adults and 3 kids, aged 10, 12 and 16 played this on a rainy, grey day in Reading and we left buzzing with smiles all round (and a million quid). What more could you ask for?
This room has two levels, one designed for 3-4 players, and the other designed for 5-6 players. We played the room as a team of 4, but on the level for 5-6. I think this level of difficulty was spot on for 4 people and we completed the room with just 50 seconds to spare.
In terms of set design, the room is nice, but not exceptional. It’s also clearly seen better days and is scuffed throughout. No major issues, though.
The puzzles are fairly unique for an escape room. There’s lots of teamwork required to do almost all of them. I enjoyed this, but some might not. The puzzles are also largely physical rather than logical. Again, some will like that and others won’t.
Overall, I enjoyed this room and would happily recommend it to others. Probably someone who is less into escape rooms and more into teamwork activities - which, to be fair, is pretty much how they advertise the room by saying that the puzzles are inspired by Crystal Maze.
One good thing about Escape Reading is that most of their games have variable difficulty depending on team size/ability. We played the 5-6 version difficulty with 4 people and only just got out.
Overall, I was frustrated by this room. The puzzles don’t fit the theme, don’t follow logically and I found the clues to be ‘wishay washy’. Unfortunately, this is not helped by quite a plain set.
Really amazing design, and a lot of very clever technology that all worked properly. Hosting was great from an actual live magical wizard in very convincing beard and green cloak, who looked similar but not identical to the guy that showed us in when we arrived.
Quite hard, a lot of teamwork and communication required. Lots of yelling round corners and through walls. The music and effects ramped up as time ran out which was fun. Good hosting.
Very well-built set. Good puzzles.
My first room! Great game.
Really enjoyable game with a great theme which is creepy but didn't make us scream (apart from when I was engrossed in a puzzle and my partner tapped me on the shoulder!).
Jacob our host was great and really brought the theme to life.
In one of the more pleasant kidnappings I've been subjected to in my escaping career! The games moves from location to location with a similar puzzling experience as the other games at this venue. A relatively straight forward game that potentially throws a couple of curve balls depending on your skillset.
Relatively straight forward creepy horror game, you can choose to either a have a "more scary" or "less scary" experience (I can't remember which one we chose in the end). Puzzles are relatively straight forward and feature a typical combination of search, logic and visual.
The king of point scoring Heist Games is probably still Daylight Robbery in Nottingham but don't discount this game at all as it features a diverse set of puzzles as you commit your robbery but there's a couple of set piece moments that make it stand out. Some pieces of the set design are also outstanding and really make this game stand out. Recommended if you like your puzzle-fest scoring kind of games.
Their best game. The set is really beautiful and we found it so immersive! It was a shame about the poor performance of the tech in the last room as it was such an innovative puzzle but it really didn't spoil the magic of this room. I would say this is more suited for smaller teams as there are some linear areas where only one puzzle can be worked on but the space was quite small to work in and so half the team were stood about waiting.
We enjoyed this room and some of it was definitely novel and fun but missed the satisfaction of the traditional padlock style puzzles
This was our third room of the day at Escape Reading and we completed the room on the highest difficulty. There was definitely a fair few puzzles to complete and some fun ones we'd not seen before but the experience was really ruined by an overactive GM who was cluing us every few minutes without us asking.
At one point we were working on quite a complex puzzle and suddenly a clue came up on the screen for a different puzzle so we left the one we were working on to focus on that. We completed it and got a part of a screwdriver. We couldn't figure out what we needed it for and spent ages searching before going back to the original puzzle we had been working on before we were disturbed. Turns out we didn't need this screwdriver part until right at the end! This wasn't the only time we received an out of order clue for this room either.
We are definitely a team who only like to be clued if we desperately need it and normally only when we ask for a clue. This room didn't feel very satisfying as most of it felt handed to us on a plate.
There was so much tech in this room. The set was stunning and magical with lights everywhere. A lot of clever puzzles which flowed well. We especially liked the puzzle at the end that required both of us to work together to win. The story at the start was also very impressive. We played all of the rooms at Escape Reading and they were all worthy of a go but this was our favourite. We highly recommend a trip to this site!
Brilliant game with some fantastic puzzles. Theming on point with a real emphasis on teamwork. Excellently hosted and very much enjoyed
We chose to tone down the scares in this game but it still had us on edge throughout. Fantastic dramatic sounds and effects as well as puzzles and a few great scares along the way!
One of our favourite games on our recent trip to reading. The whole game was interesting with a great flow to the puzzles. Excellent hosting. You hear a lot about other games at this location but this one should absolutely not be missed!
Perhaps one of the most visually pleasing escape rooms I have played. Beautiful set, unique puzzles and brilliant hosting. Excellent
We were so excited to play RamRaid after hearing some great things and it didn’t disappoint. We managed to loot the lot with time to spare and enjoyed every second. Excellent hosting by Thomas too! Highly recommended
Fantastic game. Well themed. Last puzzle was a bit broken which was annoying but this was 6 months ago
Team of two, completed the harder version and escaped with £925,000! Such a good room, great hosting!
Clever puzzles, great hosting. Loved the clue method
Good puzzles and story line, very intense! 10/10 would Recommend!
Completed with two adults and two 12 year olds on the easier version. Sensory overload. Such a well built beautiful room and great hosting!
One word - jumpy! We were in hysterics not wanting to go into parts of the room anticipating another scary moment. Lots of fun and great theme. Matt was a great host too.
Frantic and SO. MUCH. FUN. This room was (forgive the pun) rammed with puzzles - you have to work fast! Very realistic environment with high production value which felt very immersive. It's time-restricted but you could also leave at any point based on a kind of 'points' system (won't spoil what the points are). Got out with the maximum 'points' by the skin of our teeth.
Absolutely beautiful room that elicited a lot of "wow"s from the team. We absolutely loved it! Very high spec and used technology instead of standard padlocks. Puzzles were logical and cohesive. By far one of the best rooms we've ever done and the reason we started an Escape the Review account to rave about it! And fantastic hosting by Thomas who bent over backwards to accommodate us. Thank you!!!
Just a beautiful room. From beginning to end, you are transported into an Age of Magic. There were squeals of delight throughout. We've done 30+ rooms and this is definitely near the top.
Jump scares, great sound effects and puzzles! Super immersive defo recommend!!!!!
A few jump scares throughout the game but can be toned down by request. I enjoyed the use of space in this game and felt immersed within the narrative.
Definitely the hardest of the games at Escape Reading with adjustable difficulty depending on team size and experience. This game relies heavily on communication and ensures that everyone in the team has something to do at the same time.
There were some great ideas shown throughout and lots of tactile puzzles to keep all entertained. In places I felt a little more signposting and set dressing would have made the experience more immersive and flow slightly better.
A really fun challenge for experienced teams!
Great sense of urgency throughout the game as this is a collect as much as you can within the time kind of game. I really liked how there was a greater sense of structure within this game in comparison to others with a similar style.
As with all Escape Reading games, the puzzles are incredibly inventive and use the theming within them perfectly. I also really like how the game begins and ends with the van, completing the story appropriately.
I felt like I was in the middle of a Disney film - superb theming and puzzles all linked to the theme. The room also had a brilliant soundtrack to immerse even further in the world they have created.
Some really unique physical elements to this game that enhanced play and an ending that was incredibly memorable.
A must play for this company and possibly my favourite game currently in Reading!
This room went straight to my number one! It's incredibly fast paced, enjoyable and just over all incredible.
I highly recommend this room!
Played with our children and asked for easier version. Host decided to switch us without checking to more difficult version and we failed to get out. Host seemed to want us to fail which is a shame as this company have numerous other games and they were all a great experience. Room was okay but nothing exceptional.
Fab room, the staging is really excellent and well thought out, the atmospheric music was just right as well! Can't wait to try some more rooms at this venue!
This is such a fun room and a different take on the 'smash and grab' idea that really gets your heart racing, particularly during the end section, which breaks away from being linear and becomes a go-for-it bonanza of puzzle-solving. We particularly liked this end section but the game is great throughout, with some clever tech and on-theme puzzles.
We managed to get the million with time to spare as a two, which is no mean feat but definitely do-able if you work quickly. Saying that, there is a point where it would be easy to get held up so some additional team members would be an advantage.
A top game that was bags of fun.
Really enjoyed this escape room, quite basic in its build but lots of jump scares and great hosting
Some original puzzles which is always really nice to see. A really interesting and enjoyable room.
Some nice puzzles but the whole room is in the semi-dark which always detracts for me as I find it frustrating to not be able to see puzzles properly.
A fabulous set but as a team of enthusiasts we found it quite easy. Would be a fantastic room to do with kids.
Did on "non-scary" mode, in it for the puzzles.
Excellent room which has a clever mechanism so the game isn't a simple pass/fail.
We did this on the increased difficulty (did all 3 rooms that day).
Lovely set design - a lot of thought has gone into this room. Our GM was absolutely lovely and hosted excellently - I thought the clue system was excellent in the way it was hidden. Good number of puzzles and a couple of surprises and original takes. Had one puzzle where we had worked out the answer but had a missing piece which led to a little confusion on our part. Thought the soundtrack was great for the immersion and ending was excellent. Both this and Ram Raid are excellent games.
Great room - Scary by my standards but I'm a wimp. All the rooms at Escape Reading are great. I preferred some others but that's more down to their theming, rather than the quality.
This room is in my top 3 UK rooms (out of 50 or so i've completed). It's a must-do!
Really enjoyed! Good range of puzzles. We completed as a team of 2 and felt everything was very solid
Loved this! Highly recommend. Great range of puzzles and lots of unique/original elements.
What a beautiful room. From the very beginning to the very end, it was such an immersive experience. The GM Tom was very entertaining and engaging. Made the experience even better! This was our favourite room out of them all. We had one snag on a puzzle, but didn't take away from the enjoyment. Highly recommend.
Fantastic room. Loved the theming and the puzzles. All worked very well. Would encourage all to seek out this room.
Blooming brilliant game. The set is incredible, totally immersive. The safe itself is really impressive - the effort they have gone to to recreate it is really top notch.
The music is brilliant - all really well picked tunes with the tempo and style ramping up as time goes on. Our GM was a huge amount of fun, too, really playing his character as well.
Genuinely loved this game, it was so much fun with some clever puzzles. This is one of those rooms that when you come out you are totally buzzing.
All round, magical experience. This is an absolute must play.
Tackled as a team of 2, this was a bit more sedate than Ram Raid, which we did just before. The set is beautiful, the story well crafted and the puzzles fit the theme. The puzzles weren't too tricky once you got the idea. GM Matt did well on when to deliver hints, keeping us moving when needed. Nice original end puzzle too 🙂
We had read reviews of the room and it didn't disappoint!! Great immersion including theme and soundtrack. With only 2 players, there was a lot to do but, because we could divide and conquer, we managed to get the full £1000000. GM Tom was great, sending hints when needed but still making us do the hard work.
Brilliant escape room that held our attention throughout! Cannot recommend Escape Reading enough
A contender for one of the most beautifully themed games in the whole country. Totally enchanting and magical with stunning attention to detail. This is an absolute must play.
Loved this room. Totally immersive and a real adrenaline rush.
Having played a numerous Escape Reading games, it is fantastic to see their growth as a company with each new room. Tom was a great host as always.
This time around there's an increased use of technology with the puzzles/props, and a big focus on immersion, both of which work very well. The clue system was fantastic - some small details made that fit into the flow of the room rather than being a tagged on afterthought.
I am always going to have a soft spot for Ram Raid (which will forever be one of my favourite experiences), however Age of Magic also holds up really well - the immersion led to just us having a really good time. It was really exciting to go through Ram Raid, it was a joy to go through Age of Magic.
Absolutely amazing. What a great room, cannot recommend highly enough.
So clever and immersive. Great scare moments too
A fun take on the 'collect as much as you can' type of escape room, meaning you can keep going till the very end. The heist theme was definitely implemented better than other similar ones we'd done elsewhere.
Challenging as a two, because at points you could easily have 4 people working on different puzzles, so we were stretched at times. Having said that the GM helped chivvy us along so that we were able to keep on track, and we were pleased to have solved all but one 'extra' puzzle.
The puzzles were fairly unique, clever and robust. We liked the soundtrack that matched the momentum and intensity too, and clever hint systems. There were other little touches that made it good fun (which I won't say any more on as I don't want to spoil it for others!)
Definitely one of may favourite games played so far. The puzzles and the theming go together very well, and the puzzles are non-linear meaning that everybody can do their own puzzle.
Others involve very much working as a team, and those are the puzzles I love best.
Blown Away By It! 😀
One of the most beautiful rooms I’ve ever played! Clever puzzles throughout
Requires good team work to escape this one! Very immersive
Loved this room! Some real twists and some novel puzzles!
Feast for the eyes family-friendly adventure game. Visually stunning Dark Crystal meets Avatar in Disneyworld with varied, average difficulty puzzles that flowed well, a fab soundtrack and a few surprises that should definitely leave you dancing at the end - we were anyway! 😉
Welcoming gamesmaster, fun briefing video, nicely integrated hint system and you even get a souvenir fridge magnet each at the end. It's clear these guys have put a lot of time and effort into crafting this room, but thankfully some of the puzzles are adaptable for younger ones, and there's plenty of time to both escape and spend time taking in the magical scenery and enjoying the journey.
Our first ever room! Dedicated hosts, happy to talk with us and hear our feedback so they could go from strength to strength. And that they have most certainly done...having returned 5 years later and being wowed by their other rooms 🙂
Our first ever room!!
Did this room with my wife and 14 year old.
I had a splitting headache, which marred my enjoyment but I appreciated that it was a really good room. There is plenty of variety and some really cool puzzles. Also some suprises.
My wife and son LOVED it and rated it one of their faves
A really beautiful room with lots of styling details and a great theme. There are a few bottle necks which means our experienced team of 4 were sometimes a little restless while only two of us solved a puzzle. The last section is great fun but with some technical challenges that the GM had to work round (without giving too much away, some of the switches don't always work right).
Probably better for two or four family groups as it's a little short of puzzles but still a lovely experience.
This is a very enjoyable room with a variable difficulty setting ensuring that even with experience there is plenty to fill your time (we escaped with £900,000/no clues). Had some genuine adrenaline later on in the game and definitely a buzz from the finish - some great ideas in this game, and had a lovely GM host us who was clearly passionate about playing ERs as well.
A really great room but some issues with solving puzzles where the set up was wrong (so we got a digit wrong because something had been tampered with) and some difficulty in reading a section of information because of lighting and angles or worn out numbering. Decent but flawed, needs a bit of a spruce up.
One of my favourite ever rooms. We had an amazing GM who must have been running around behind the scenes. The room looks a little basic but, honestly, it was so much fun we really didn't notice. The puzzles are great and the way the scares work (you jump, then laugh, then get on with solving) made it enormous fun. A riot.
One of my all time favourite rooms. This requires a good dose of team work in order to solve some of the puzzles. I love the way the room is styled - the theme works brilliantly.
Escape Reading have been around for a few years now, and have recently refurbished their original location (on the Oxford Road, near Tesco) with a very fresh look, and a brand new room to explore.
Entering the site, it was almost shocking how much it had changed - gone was the old-style "we've stuck a couple of rooms in a rented space above a welders", and the whole place has been repainted, reorganised, flashy lights and (I appreciate this sounds silly) charging cables for your phones inside the lockboxes for escapees. Our host (Jacob) gave us a well-themed brief that we were off to rob a bank for convoluted reasons, and off we went, through the door, and... Wow. Avoiding spoilers here, but the themeing was utterly on point, huge amounts of custom work that's been put in (including a number of utterly massive props that fit amazingly, and custom branding throughout), and it really did feel like a legitimate bank.
For the puzzles, they all drew off the theme well, and were challenging without being obtuse. The tech level was great, with maglocks galore and some very nice custom computer work. The robbery escalates throughout, with a finale that reminded me somewhat of a boss rush in Megaman, causing absolute chaos for our reasonably experienced (2 of us with >30 rooms, 2 with 5-10) team. Throughout the room, we didn't feel like we got stuck at all (barring us missing a really obvious sign, that we had to be prompted on!), and the pacing and puzzles kept all 4 of us busy for the duration. For less experienced teams, the room does come with a mechanic allowing for partial completion of the room, which in context makes a lot of sense.
Escape Reading have been pushing further and further with each room they release, and this room has really tipped the scales, putting it in my top 5 rooms (alongside both of CoDecode's rooms (Swindon), Time Trap's Station X (Reading) and Cryptology's First Contact (Sheffield)). We're super-excited about what they bring next (with their magic-themed room coming "soon")!
Absolutely fantastic room - excellent attention to detail/chunky props that certainly add to the experience.
Very good use of varying win condition (collect as much money from bank as you c an!)
Very enjoyable.
Good puzzle content in terms of both volume and variability.
Better theming/build quality than previous Escape Reading closed rooms as well, certainly best room to date.
There are 2 levels of difficulty - go for the harder one to avoid missing out on a couple of fun puzzles.
