When pulling up to Xscapenow by first thought was how happy I was to see a thriving independent, out of town escape room thriving. It was almost fully booked with 5 rooms running simultaneously all day.
My thoughts quickly turned to imagining an overstretched games master looking after multiple rooms, not watching games and delivering late generic hints about things we've already done. We've all seen it at usual suspects.
How wrong could I be. Our host was super friendly, enthusiastic and keen to talk all things escape rooms. The twice we asked for clues he immediately responded with a clue specific to our game. He must have anticipated the question and was ready to send - itbnakes me wonder what else he typed thatbwe didnt need. Unlike other gamesmasters we have had, he didn't overstep the mark and jump.in with clues, spoiling the 'ah ha moments' but the one time we had the right clue but just didn't press the button on the lock he jumped in to stop.us wasting time and spoiling our fun.
The game itself was huge, spread over multiple train carriages and featuring so.many styles of puzzle. Everything from real thinking puzzles to a really fun skill based puzzle easy enough so it won't ruin your game but tricky enough to make you feel good about yourself after succeeding.
The set was very immersive and you felt like you on a train rushing though the wild west the whole time.
Reviews persuaded us to make a detour on our trip to Birmingham and I am so glad we did. Next time we are in the area we will 100% be back to do more.

Xscape Now's Runaway Train is an absolute locomotive of fun! This is our top pick in Telford. The endless carriages of puzzles are packed with clever challenges, and traditional lock puzzles are given a fresh coat of paint, making every puzzle rewarding. The immersive atmosphere, complete with quality props and decor, enhances the experience. All aboard for an unforgettable escape room adventure!

When youâve played almost 200 rooms itâs refreshing to find puzzles you hadnât done before and this room had a few of them! We had great fun working our way through the runaway train and it was really on theme. A great host too and we canât wait to see what they do next.
I have done a few train rooms before, but this was the first one that was actually shaped like a train. Moving through in the way its laid out makes a lot of sense, and this was the best themed room we have done at this venue. Some original things I had not seen before.

Another excellent room from this company. Brilliantly designed immersive set, particularly the last couple of âroomsâ. Got stuck on a couple of puzzles we probably shouldnât have making it a bit tight at the end.

This room is so, so good! So many moments when we said âAh thatâs brilliantâ!
Very original with lots of variation on puzzles and a good mix of locks and tech. Played this as a group of 2 with a 12 week old baby. We would normally play as a 4 and I think it threw us off as we had to have a little more help than normal even though this room definitely isnât as difficult as the Book of Magic. Still absolutely loved it though and the set is so wonderfully done and immersive.
Amazing hosts as always. So welcoming! Great communication and clues that were given on the screen were clear and quickly delivered.
A nice big multi-room set with plenty of puzzles to do, but I think my expectations were set a bit high by online reviews - most puzzles were simple code padlock based, I think I'd expected slightly more tech for a fairly new room

Yee-ha! This had a lovely big floor plan and was packed with puzzles that were on-theme and enjoyable. If I could add a couple more puzzles, I would, but purely because we were enjoying it so much that it was disappointing when it ended! We love physical puzzles and there were quite a few of these. We also enjoyed some of the twists on some of the usual puzzles we see in escape rooms.
There were no 'what do we do now?' moments because it's all quite instinctive so flowed nicely. A team of two was the perfect number, as it meant we both got to work on everything without feeling crowded.
Very enjoyable and a large space to explore! Due to the large space, at some points the game felt a little bit sparse, it felt like a few more puzzles could have been included. Great host and a fun room!

Wow this was so much fun! After struggling with the first clue (we felt like proper beginners!), we made our way into the main set and were really impressed with how immersive, sprawling and exciting it all was. A vast variety of puzzles, all of which made sense, and best of all the theming of this room was really on point, it felt like we were really on a train! Double thumbs up for this room! Our new personal favourite at XscapeNow.

XscapeNowâs train game is a Wild West theme, and of course the train youâre on is heading towards a collision that only you can prevent.
This is a room that looks good from the outset and maintains that impression throughout. The train setting gives the game a natural structure, with a clear progression from beginning to end.
A Western setting is a theme well suited to escape room design, with distinctive motifs and style of decor, as well as obvious starting points for puzzles. Putting it on ...
More than just a pretty face, runaway train is a brilliant example of impeccable game flow and game design. A must-play!
