The puzzles are a bit boring and uninspired, but the immersion factor really makes up for it.  The avatar character is very naturally believable, and the transitions between live and recorded video are very smooth.  One can easily believe that one is watching a documentary on TV and not a pre-rehearsed escape room.

An excellent implementation that combines a flair of theatricality as well as some wonderful puzzles.  Unusually, this is all done in 3rd person as this room actually has a cameraman so you more engage with your Avatar and he was great.  Also, no inventory system so you have to remember the things you have found.  A thoroughly excellent experience.

Wow what an introduction to virtual games, this game was amazing, the production values were out of this world, the cinematics really made you feel involved in a blockbuster movie.  The host Ronnie and the cameraman Liam were great , had so much fun with these guys...... we as a team still worry about Liam.  Cannot recommend this game highly enough. Been talking about it ever since.

Definitely one of the most entertaining games that we've played.  A really personable GM, and terrific integration of video elements.  Some small scary touches that were very well done.  A great example of how imagination can take a fairly simple set up and really make it exceptional.  Very much looking forward to doing the sequel!

Brilliant. Fantastic video integration, really good host, great vibe. Game made us think. One of the best UK-based virtual experiences I've done.

Virtual Exorcist is still on the very top of my list - and I've played a lot since Covid!!! 🙂 I love the technical translation into an unique online experience. I am really not into horror, but this was so much fun - especially because of the hosts! We've played it one year ago, and it's still my favourite today! Loved everything about it! 🙂

Extremely well done avatar led room that does a great job building a story and creating a vibe. It felt like we were watching and participating in a live ghost hunter show while we working through the game, and there were some great touches throughout the game that really made it stand. This is one of the rare cases where it feels like the online version of the game is probably significantly better than the in person version of the same game.

A nicely made demon-hunting game, with a unique approach to avatar filming and presentation that works well.

Fabulous theming and great characters elevate this escape room to the outstanding score given. It really is a must play, preferably when its dark!

Stands out as my #1 room recommendation currently. Really felt like I was an active participant in a horror movie. Ronnie did an incredible job at reacting to our group's style of humour and played into it non-stop. PLAY THIS GAME.

Emergency Exorcism

This was the second of a back-to-back booking at Emergency Exit. The prices were incredibly reasonable compared to those in Manchester city centre, and I got a discount on top. We each paid £18 for 2 rooms- excellent value.

Story

Uncover the secrets of a haunted house- where previous explorers have since gone missing- but don’t outstay your welcome!

Puzzles

A typical escape room variety, mostly requiring a fair amount of thinking and a little bit of looking. Nothing revolutionary, but still very good.

Mise-en-scene

Spine-chillingly atmospheric- there were even immersive smells- though it was a little too dark. Loud, frightening cutscenes progressed the story.

Final Comments

Our host was dry in the best possible way and obviously had fun spooking us! We smashed this one with barely any hints. I’m looking forward to coming back to do the third and final room.

This was one of the best online rooms I played at the height of the Covid pandemic and was curious how it would translate in reality.  The room is the same, the puzzles are (mostly) the same but there is an atmosphere in this room, it was cold and I’m not sure if that was part of the effect or it was just cold!  The overall story is helped by the video cutscenes that you discover along the way which help develop the narrative.  The progress is mostly linear with some relatively familiar tropes to help you along the way.  Its a tough one but I think playing the online version did spoil me slightly as some things did come back to me as the game went on.

Very creepy! Great use of space and the puzzles were all in theme.

Creepy but not jump scary, this room was just what we needed on a Friday evening after a long week. This room stands out to us - not for the puzzles which were pretty standard but for the story and how it was told. Creepy did also not rule out a bit of humour.

I wouldn't call the decor pretty but we did appreciate that this was not a room you shopped for in IKEA. The puzzles did not stand out as special, but what was special was the good signposting and ease of use. Also we liked that one puzzle did effect the 360 image of the room, so that you knew it was solved.

In the beginning we had to get used to the many many videos that introduced the room to us, but it was worth it. Not only did we get a great introduction to the story, we felt very involved with the mission - almost too involved. A bit of sweat did appear on our forehead when we went over an hour. The production value of the videos was high - it was impressive.

If I should say anything against this room, we did not like the hint-system. It was audio only and while it fit the story, it did not help us. Probably because we are non-native English speakers we had a hard time understanding what was said in a short clip - sometimes we need a bit of context to appreciate the meaning or to see it in writing.

Spooky and eerie throughout with a fair few jump scares along the way.

Darkness sometimes more of a hindrance rather than a necessary element of the game.

Quite a few puzzles which we had seen  before.

Good hosting. Good fun.

This WAS the best virtual/Zoom escape room my escape room club has done to date... until we played the sequel, The Beast. Do this one first though as the two are linked via a continuous plot.

Venues are still working out the best way to convert physical games to remote play. For an example of how to do it well, it’s worth looking at E-Exit’s games. Many good remote games still leave me with the impression of being an imperfect substitute for playing in person; Exorcist is one of the rare cases where I’d sooner play the avatar version.

The story is that you’re on a virtual tour of a mansion nicknamed Crowley Manor, and you’re in the narrative from the moment you connect, talking to a...

We loved everything about this game, and strangely lost all concept of time. We knew we had a time limit but we were so captivated by the game that time became a foreign concept. Exceptional hosting, great puzzles, and full on immersion.

Every time I think back to this room I smile. We have great memories of it, but I can't tell you why. It's a whole, the group, John, the riddles, the room, the choice of narrative. It all fits!

What makes The Virtual Exorcist by Emergency Exit Escape Rooms stand out is an incredibly likable avatar and the professionally staged cutscenes that make The Virtual Exorcist a great remote experience.

THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU! THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU… to play this game before it’s too late!

Thematically-speaking, the game goes for the "classical horror" vibe - no excessive gore, very few jumpscares (if any? I'm not telling ), just abandoned rooms with a gloomy vibe. The puzzles were fairly classic, and I'm guessing they must have taken out a few of them in this online version, because a typical group would surely find their way out in short time. Instead, thanks to our (pretty good) host, we were slowly exploring this spooky environment, learning lots of little details that made the setting even more believable. The game also makes good use of video recordings, and I can easily imagine a team getting properly unnerved by the adventure...

My first experience of an online escape room, and the bar has been set incredibly high.

This game was also the second remote game we've experienced that utilized two people as avatars (the tour guide and the camera man). They definitely had it down in terms of the whole production. The camera man was great at capturing the different angles to show up close ups on items and locks. We felt like we were on set filming a reality show. The footage was surprising stable for the entire time. There was no inventory list for this game but we felt like there was no need for it. We actually enjoyed it more since we didn't have to worry about missing any action on the main screen. The cliffhanger at the end was well played. Now we can't wait for the next chapter!

Recently converted from the remote avatar version, Exorcist’s point-and-click version utilises Telescape for a 360 view of the room and easy to follow inventory management system. I did go into the game apprehensive, I mean just how scary can a non-hosted game really be? It turns out, quite scary indeed!
