Modrophenia is a classic murder mystery puzzle hunt with a twist! You and your team take on the roles of a gang of Mods in 1964 Brighton who are investigating the murder of one of their friends. Puzzles, riddles and discovery will lead you to uncover more and more of the story, but will you find out what happened in time?
This super cool retro game features some of the finest items the 60s has to offer, including a genuine 1963 Vespa and a working 1964 pinball machine.
Modrophenia has been designed with larger groups in mind and there is plenty to do in the time given so we recommend a minimum team size of four people. But experienced escape room enthusiasts are welcome to take on the challenge in smaller teams, just contact us to open up the booking.

Unfortunately this game just didn’t click with us at all! Very difficult puzzles at points felt like some logic jumps and never felt so frustrated for the hour in a room! Real shame as had high expectations! I can imagine it’s a marmite game some will love it and some will not get along so easily!
Again a good game however for me personally I couldn't ever find myself having fun within the game. Just stressed out due to the difficulty we need a lot of hints throughout this game. And then failed at the final hurdle.

original
The theme was strong and some of the puzzles were good. I think overall for me, whilst nothing wrong with the room as such, it just didn’t feel a fun room.
Awesome room with puzzles that really fit the story. We needed a couple of nudges (always miss something searching!) but puzzles made sense (no red herrings/time wasters) and our 6 and 9 year olds were able to really take part. Amazing GM-ing as usual for Pier Pressure

This is a nice solid game. Really liked the theming, range of puzzles, clue delivery and the GM in character was great. Nowhere near the level of Loot the Lanes but a good room none the less.

Great theme with a soundtrack to match. Some original puzzles. Really enjoyed this room! Very glad we were able to do the full game as a 2 (plus dog!) - apparently there is a shorter 2-person version if you're a smaller team of newbies.
Some great nods to the theme here that we really enjoyed with some lovely puzzles along the way.
There are ways to make this easier for smaller teams but we did the whole game with 10mins left on the clock, so it's do-able as a pair working at a swift pace if you split up and hammer it. There is quite a lot to do, particularly in the first section, so additional pairs of eyes would be a real plus in here.
Great in-role hosting, which seems to be a hallmark of Pier Pressure, and lovely staff in general!

So much to do in this game, and I would recommend you try to get a team of 4+ together. We really struggled to keep up with the pace as a two. It's a decent game, but Loot The Lanes flowed so well, Mod didn't leave us with "that" feeling.
I do love a room that incorporates elements of local history, Comms Room at Escape in the Towers and The Rig at LetsXcape are two others that come to mind. This one involves the mods and rocker scenes and aims to recreate the 60's. The puzzles and theming are all on point and never broke the immersion of the room.
As always with Pier Pressure the hosting is impeccable and a intuitive clue system. An intense room with lots to keep you engaged and busy. Great themeing with nice touches such as the pinball machine. We were commended for our performance as a 2 player team and the room was enjoyable.

First room I'd played just after it opened in May 2018 and we failed. Came back for vengeance and managed an escape. I regard the game a lot better now, found the puzzles enjoyable and it flowed really well. Felt a bit more tired perhaps, with some of the props and the set feeling rather worn. Still good fun, and had a excellent GM and clue system.
Wonderfully themed and very inventive, this is a great adventure into the mod scene. The puzzles are inventive and blend into the decor nicely, and all were logical. Hosting was great with the host staying in character throughout. Plus its got a great team photo opportunity! Loved it immensely.
Played as a 2 - normally a 4+ room - and got out, JUST, but worked hard for it. There are a lot of puzzles in this room. We had a blast, our GM was brilliant, nothing was too hard but a lot to do. I would recommend any game at Pier Pressure - clearly operated by enthusiasts. Set dressing was excellent and felt totally immersed in the world at hand.

I know close to nothing about the Mods, and certainly don’t have any nostalgic resonance with the sub-culture. Even so, the exuberance and ubiquity of the Sixties patterns and designs were irresistible.
If you’re not familiar with the history, the Mods and the Rockers were rival gangs that clashed violently in Brighton on more than one occasion. In Modrophenia, you’re investigating the death of a fellow Mod, and need to construct a timeline of his movements leading up to his murder. In practice...
A wonderful homage to a part of Brighton culture that I knew little about. Decoration-wise it's impressive and there's a decent story as well. A great option if you're looking plenty of varied challenges.
There’s a reason Pier Pressure are so well thought of amongst escape room enthusiasts, and Modrophenia highlights all of those things. Funky sets, perfect puzzles, and an immersive atmosphere, you can’t go wrong with any of the games here, but Modrophenia is one not to miss.
Want an escape room that will satisfy your daydreams of being a 60s mod, zipping up and down the Brighton seafront on your Vespa? We did, so we headed to Pier Pressure's Modrophenia room...
