Of the Unlock board/card games I have played this probably had the best flow. I really liked a game mechanism for getting more time if you were observant. I often have the feeling that the puzzles are a bit "guess what I'm thinking" in Unlock! games and that also came into play here, but I understood the reasoning after I took the hints. Playing alone, I did not wait long to take hints and that probably helped me with the flow feeling in the game.
The theme was nice and I liked the ambience and design style of this game.

The Unlock games have so far been released in sets of three, and both times the third game in the set has had the highest difficulty rating and has also seemed to be the one with all the designers' favourite ideas. This one, The Tonipal’s Treasure, is a pirate-themed scenario that shows off the best of the Unlock format while introducing new ideas of its own.
The Mystery Adventures set of three games came with an app upgrade that added a ‘machine’ button to handle a new card type. Each of these...
Second in the Mystery Adventures set of Unlock games, The Nautilus’ Traps is a beautifully illustrated game with an evocative theme, creative puzzle ideas and some clever ideas that mix up the format somewhat; and despite all that it’s a contender for my least favourite of the series.
This scenario is set underwater, with you hiding in a mysterious wreck from a tentacled sea monster. There’s a shock waiting as soon as you begin: instead of the expected 60 minutes, you begin with a much smaller ...
They’ve been out on the far side of the Atlantic for a while now, but the three new Unlock games finally reached the U.K. in December. Here they’re sold as a single box of three games with each described as a different difficulty level, and House on the Hill is the first and easiest.
This game is set in a haunted house, and your aim is to lift a curse and drive away the demonic spirits. The game tries hard with Unlock’s typically high quality artwork, plus creepy audio from the app and suitably...
Ahhh, lockdown 2.0… It’s back and it’s gloomier than ever. So I find myself once again at my board game shelf, rummaging around for fun things to do with Player 2 at home. Enter “The House on the Hill!”
Oops – this one has actually been on my list for MONTHS. I’d put it aside as a perfect Halloween game to play. Halloween came and went. So better to play this one late than never! Even if we did choose to play this on a sunny Saturday morning instead of a candlelit Halloween evening it’s designed for.
So stepping into the world of Tonipal in search of treasure was an absolute joy. There’s such a fun narrative in this game. First, you’re locked up in a prison cell. Step one is to break out (but don’t worry, you later come back for your cellmates!), then what follows is an exciting trip from location to location. You meet good guys, bad guys, and voodoo priestesses. You’ll have opportunities to make a choice (whether you want to fight or flight, for example) which gives the game an impression of a ‘choose your own adventure’.
A harder game, but it flowed better than other Unlock Games. We even managed to complete the game in 48 minutes. However, we suffered a number of penalties on this game which reduced the fun. Also one hidden number was unseeable – even one we had the answer we couldn’t see it!
Along with the other two games in the mystery adventures box by Unlock! this game make for a fun evening, I would recommend finding out your pirate hat and making yourself a rum cocktail to play along.
It's a very reasonable escape at home game, the artwork on the cards is good and it does make for an entertaining evening (especially with a horror movie on in the background to really hit the theme!)
