Percy Pendleton and his Wife Violet live above their modest haberdashery shop situated on Chapel street.
One rainy Tuesday afternoon Percy received a telegram all the way from Peru. The only person Percy knows in Peru is his rich Uncle Paolo who he hasn't seen since he was a child. Paolo owns a very lucrative pineapple plantation.
The telegram reads-
I'm sorry to inform you of your Uncle Paolo's death.
His entire estate has been left to his loving Wife with the exception of a box he has asked to be sent to you.
Later that day a courier arrived and Percy couldn't believe it when he saw two strong men struggle to lift the small package and bring it inside. After they left Percy carefully lifted the lid to be greeted by a sight that made him sit down in complete shock. A handwritten note sat on top of the items and it read-
My dearest Nephew Percy.
You always were my favourite relative and so these should set you up for life.
All my love
Uncle Paolo.
Inside the box were dozens of jewel encrusted solid gold pineapples, they must be worth an absolute fortune! Percy started to panic, where would he keep them safe? This area of town is known for robbers and criminal gangs, and then..... a loud knock at the door!
"Oh my goodness, they've come for me already!" Percy was almost faint with panic as he opened the door. He was filled with indescribable relief to find Tommy Tatler on his doorstep. Tommy owns the Chapelgate tavern across the road and they'd been friends since they were kids. Percy could always rely on Tommy to help him with any situation.
After showing him the precious pineapples and explaining everything, Tommy knew just what to do. "I'll hide these somewhere safe for you Percy, I've got lots of great hiding places in my tavern" Tommy said confidently, and off he went leaving Percy feeling like all his troubles were over. He kept just one of the pineapples to sell and decided he'd gradually sell them off over time so as not to arouse suspicion.
Next morning Percy popped across to the Tavern to see Tommy, when he got there Tommy's wife Rose was in a terrible state. "Tommy was here last night, I heard him banging about in the Tavern after he'd been to see you Percy, then I heard him arguing with someone and it all went quiet, when I came up from the cellar he was nowhere to be seen, where is he Percy?" She said.
We've searched day and night but it's been almost a week now and no one's seen him. Can you detectives help us find him? We don't know if he's dead or alive but Psychic Cybil the local clairvoyant and psychic has offered to help us.
What a peculiar predicament!

An absolutely amazing room! We can’t wait to come back and complete their other 4 rooms when they are available! We’ve played over 50 rooms and this has now taken top spot for our favourite room. So immersive and the puzzles definitely make you think but aren’t too far-fetched as is the case in some escape rooms. Our host was lovely and also recommend a few other escape rooms for us to try on our next journey to them. Thanks for an amazing experience!
Another great trip to Escape Quest! 9 pineapples collected.
Just loved this experience. It's best described as an experience because the looks on some of my families faces was a picture. A must do! Great hosting!!!
Great how they can rework the space, just wasn’t feeling this one as much as Curiosity Shoppe. A lot of the puzzles felt like they were just there to waste time. Will still go back for fortunes though.
Absolutely top class room with wonderful owners. Wonderful set. Absolutely nothing not to like - fantastic experience through and through.
I've been doing escape rooms for quite a few years now and I do not recall ever hearing about this place and before attending I must say that I was rather skeptical.
However, I was absolutely blown away by every aspect of the game.
- The game flowed extremely well, with a nice pacing and we were never stuck for something to do.
- The room looked STUNNING and everything was themed nicely.
- The puzzles all made sense and didn't require leaps in logic.
- Lots of locks, however, you always knew which code went into which lock.
- A lot of work has gone into this venue, from the large set design all the way down to the smallest of details.
Will definitely be back and will be recommending this venue regularly.
I'm so glad we managed to catch this on it's last day (only for a while). Beautiful design (take your breath away beautiful), brilliant flow and just so many wow moments. If you're looking for your next addictive venue, this is the one!
Whilst we enjoyed this game - It felt like a shadow compared to Copplestones. Puzzles didn't feel a rewarding and it really let us down - Game was still amazing.
Great, well-built set with loads of content for enthusiasts. I docked half a star because a couple of the puzzles were a little unoriginal but I'm being very picky. Really I just want to leave room in case one of their other rooms turns out to be even better!
It took me some time on what to rate this game.
If it wasn't for Mr Copplestone, I'd have given this a solid 4.5*.
This game is escape room enthusiast heaven, but it is very similar to Copplestone. Both are absolute games every enthusiast must play and I suspect if I played them in the reverse order I would have given this 4.5* and the other 4.0*.
Impressive escape room. We were unlucky on the day as we were surprised by the logic of the puzzles which made us lose time and then we felt overwhelmed altogether. Due to the amount of things to do, you'll have to split up all the time if you want to complete it as a team of 2, I would recommend at least a team of 4. Will definitely head back to Macclesfield to try other rooms (and maybe even try this one again!)
Edit: came back in 2024 with a group of 7 and had a lot of fun! ❤️
Absolutely incredible - truly a passion project. Right from the start, the experience was incredible. Hosts was fantastic, set design impeccable and no shortage of puzzles. This may be the best escape room in the UK - you must play this!
Absolutely did not disappoint after Copplestone - the set is every bit as impressive, puzzles were fantastic and plentiful, we had a ball of a time.
We wanted to do a really special room for our 100th and, having done Mr Copplestone a few months ago, we made sure that Percy Pendleton was the room that would take us into triple figures. Without a doubt, Elaine and Mike have created at Escape Quest the most top flight escape room imaginable - it's a puzzle-enthusiast's dream.
Percy Pendleton is the latest installment of the Chapelgate mysteries and is absolutely bursting at the seams with fabulous puzzles that are beautifully crafted and so much fun to do. We loved the quirky storyline, the superb hosting (that felt incredibly personal, as they made our 100th room a really special one) and the outstanding quality of everything in this room.
Superb.
Puzzles galore! Must play room and excellent hosting. Stunning set design and extremely clever puzzles for beginners and experts alike.
After playing the previous game we couldn’t wait to return and we had another great time!
There’s a lot to do in this room and it is difficult with a smaller team but we enjoy the challenge. Great hosts, varied puzzles and great storytelling throughout, not to be missed.
The next instalment of the Chapelgate Mysteries is every bit as good as the first. The set is great with pieces of puzzles cleverly hidden in plain sight. Plenty of puzzles to keep even the most puzzle hungry Escapers happy. Hosting is brilliant and we could have happily chatted for hours.
This game was absolutely incredible and huge, and easily had some of the best decor/set dressing I've ever seen. I loved that there was a main puzzle/mystery and then extra treasures to find as almost a side quest, so we were kept busy right until the wire. We had enough to do in parallel with 2 groups working on different things. We had a few 'near misses' before we got the answers but everything made sense and the hint system itself was also a delight. Our host was so lovely and clearly enthusiastic.
There is not enough good things to say about this room and I would say it is a 'must play' for anyone!
Another incredible game in the Chapelgate Mysteries. Came away with all of the pineapples so very happy about that.
Beautiful set, wonderful host, can't wait to play the next one!
