What a great game. Some real thinkers in there. Brilliant concept I haven't seen before. The owner (I'm sorry I can't remember) was brilliant as our host, with sleepy sidekick Hovis (beautiful dog).
We just expected a little bit more from it. As when thinking about it, there were really only 3/4 actual puzzles in there, they just needed to be repeated couple times. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing as we still enjoyed ourselves and they were interesting enough. But we didn't end the room feeling "is that it?". Host/Owner was lovely and we did enjoy our time with his dog Hovis.
A lot of fun, this room. Definitely team work involved! Nice addition to Lockuo's roster.
We really enjoyed all of the Lockup games, and we love Hovis. This room worked really well with 2 people as we were able to move around a bit easier at the start. We were quite slow with the first puzzle but then made nice progress with the rest, following the game logic. The set was fun for this room, only improvement would be some sea shanties playing π
Based on conecpt alone this should be an excellent game, but I feel its execution left a lot to be desired. Set and theming was well done and puzzles required a strong element of teamwork, but something about the puzzles felt odd. There was nothing massively wrong with any of the puzzles, but we just didn't get on with them too well. This was especially true in the latter part of the game, where the flow became very linear and the solutions weren't particularly clear - meant a lot of twiddling padlock dials until it would open as the code wasn't very clear.
This certainly isn't a bad game and you'll have fun in here, plus is very affordable too. The ideas just need some streamlining as it felt a bit all over the place. The owner Liam was lovely and cleary has put a lot of effort into the room - Mutiny just didn't work for us I think.
Loved the room and the theme - decoration is fantastic. There were some aspects the host has been struggling with due to material fluctuations that can make the game difficult at times. With some more minor adjustments this will easily improve.
Not much to say except that I recommend this room to anyone who enjoys escape rooms going through Sheffield. It's fun and whimsical and requires a lot of teamwork!
Absolutely fantastic! Quite low tech and lots of padlocks but that kinda makes sense in a room set on a pirate ship. The owner has clearly put a lot of thought into the theming, we had a conversation and he spoke about dipping even the nuts and bolts of the room in acid in order to make the place look like a dingy vessel! Commitment to immersion.
I'm taking off half a star for having a super difficult puzzle be the first one in the room, which meant we felt a bit deflated once we completed it, but then the pacing improved and we were solving puzzles left and right, the host told us that he thought we weren't going to need the clue he gives to most groups before he closes the door, so, maybe this isn't a problem with most groups.
Everything was properly communicated and (apart from the aforementioned opener), it was quite clear what was the next thing to do next, and how to approach the solution and actually FIGURING stuff out! *chef's kiss*
Yeah, I like the Lock Up company. The host is always great (Liam) and friendly, and clearly works hard (as does his sidekick, his dog, Hovis).
This room was good fun, I enjoyed it very much. Our host told us something important at the beginning of the game, and for whatever reason, unbeknownst to us, we chose to ignore him, which then of course delayed us for a good ten minutes, so thats on us! But once we were clued in, we were then able to pick up the pace and found it very enjoyable.
This game is probably aimed at people who want a bit of a challenge, or the very least can show strong teamwork, as it required it for parts of the game. There were some puzzles that i've seen before but put to good use, and some that I havent seen before and thought they were so obvious for the theme, I didn't understand why I havent seen them before, but the whole game just flowed nicely and we had fun.
My only criticism would be when we played there was no soundtrack to the room, obviously this is not a requirement, but we could hear the traffic outside and it just took you out of the story a bit, but other than than, nice little game at reasonable prices.
We will be returning.
