I really need to stop picking up the phone to these crazy archeology studying types.

Really enjoyed this one! Might be in contrast to how poor the previous one I did was, but I struggle to believe the same people made both. The art style is delightful and stylistic, the puzzles all make sense (except for the finale which…. Grr), and it just all round was a very nice use of the game mechanics and app this system uses.

Hm. Not quite sure how to rate this one - found it quite frustrating in some parts, but often it was because we just hadn’t remembered some rules we’d been given which weren’t entirely intuitive. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if I’d played more by this brand first, which seems to have some very interesting concepts, and I enjoy its exploring/building a lot, and the app is good. Hoping to play more by this brand to test this theory!

broken tech

Our box (previously unopened) was missing probably the most important card in the set...

Posted in r/games and someone sent a photo of the card but with the dimensions (viewing it on a phone) being different to the other cards and having to line things up etc, this was completely unsolvable. Big let down

Reviews by escape room review sites

The Unlock! games continue to surprise and impress me at how much they manage to do purely with a deck of cards. First they managed to re-introduce search as a major part of the game (though there's much less of that here than in the first two), and with their third scenario they add in communication-based puzzles.
This is done by a card introducing new rules at the game's start, stating that the players must divide into two teams, each with a separate deck of cards, and must work separately. W...
See the Squeek and Sausage review for a general overview of the Unlock! game system. For those purchasing all three games as a single box, The Formula is the first game and perhaps the most straightforward in style - though not in difficulty.
The game elements here, as represented by the cards, are very much traditional escape room fare, so much so that with only a couple of tweaks this game could be built as a ph...
The Unlock! series of play-at-home escape games from Space Cowboys is sold in Europe as a single box of three games, but in the US as three separate games. While all share the same game system, each of the three has a different author and illustrator, and a different style of puzzles.
Each consists of a deck of cards. The only other element is an app, which you must install to play the games. This acts as a timer, clue system, and source of background audio.
To understand the way to play the g...
A review of the first Unlock! board game - a collection of three escape rooms with a nice variety of styles.

Interestingly, this game has you split into two. We played it with just two people, which was a little tricky at the start – we weren’t exactly sure what we could and couldn’t say to each other, or who had to make the next move. But the game play was massively rewarding with “Aha!” moments throughout and a huge feeling of satisfaction when we finally did reunite towards the end.

A clown-like mad scientist is poised for world domination, and the only thing that can stop him is an overweight mouse and a possibly expired sausage. Let’s discuss.

A well-made game sure to appeal to those who played and enjoyed T.I.M.E. stories
The Island of Dr. Goorse has done a terrific job with its resources. This game pushed the bounds with its creativity, and the results speak for themselves.
A fun night in for board gamers and puzzle solvers alike
It's safe to say we didn't particularly enjoy this one. The gameplay was difficult for the sake of it rather than because it needed it and therefore we lost interest. The concept of being split and unable to communicate with the other half of your team is interesting but not enough to save this game.
It's not our favourite game but is certainly a solid chapter in the Unlock series. The game tries to bring an exciting storyline but it is simple and therefore doesn't build as much excitement as others. Still, a good game and will provide an hours entertainment for a family.
It's probably our favourite unlock game to date. It works really well as an experience but also feels the most like an escape room experience. With the addition of a different type of puzzle beyond the usual, it adds another dimension to the unlock game series.
