Pretty traditional room, some good puzzles. Got out but didnโt have chance for the bonus puzzles, spent too much time on a puzzle at the end that was a little convoluted.
Absolutely loved this room and the whole experience at Wirral Escape Rooms. The owner Amy took the time to discuss other escape rooms and recommended other places to visit. A room made by an enthusiast for enthusiasts. Even if you plan your escape quickly there are extras to keep you going.
A must do room if you are in the Merseyside area. Great host and a beautiful room
Really enjoyed this one, just a genuinely well put together and we'll paced room that doesn't rely on super high tech to get thrills, a nice mix of puzzles, with everything flowing in to everything else really nicely.
A great mix of puzzles and the theming was great. Recommend if you're in the area.
The hosting, game and set design are utterly outstanding. So many Easter eggs ๐
I loved that we got to use the full amount of time available too.
Loved this room, especially the optional extra puzzles to find bonus treasure items. Very logical and complex problems to solve.
Host was amazing

Really immersive room, puzzles were all on theme and the decoration was brilliant. A massive thanks to our host who was fantastic and chatted to us for half an hour afterwards. We played as a 4 but easily doable as a pair.
Superb room and the host, Amy, was fantastic. Highly recommended!!
I always like it when there are side quests to do once you have reached your main 'goal'. This room kept us busy from start to finish.
Lovely owners who were happy to stick around and chat with us.
When is the next room opening????
Loved it and love that there's extra stuff to do when you're finished.
Having done 40+ escape rooms at that stage, we were always attracted by the unique rooms created by independent and passionate people instead of the Clue HQ or other Breakouts that you can find in any city you head to. The two owners of Wirral Escape Rooms are probably the most enthusiastic owners we've met in a long time! We arrived 30 minutes early at the place and spent that time discussing our favourite escape games memories, exchanging tips on where to go etc.. You could tell that they got inspired by all the favourites bits of escape games they experienced in the past, and as she explained to us, she loves padlocks and puzzles and the rooms was full of very clever ones! I'm more of a hands-on puzzle with as few locks as possible but it was hard to not feel immersed in The Curse of the Golden Lion. The decoration and soundtrack atmosphere were perfect, very high quality! I've had bad experiences in the past when trying out a "new" room with things unfinished or unpolished, this was definitely not the case, everything was on point! This room is clearly for more experienced players and I would not recommend it for a two player game, we had a lot of fun as a 5 players game! They are already working on the second room and the place they have seem to have enough space to host many others! I'm so glad it's working out quite well for them! It's also a very easy ride by train to there building! You can be there in 30 minutes from Liverpool city center. We didn't really understood straight away that there were two elements to the game (a story one and the optional 3 artifacts to gather). This was a bit misleading as we solved puzzles and ended up with an artifact wondering what we were supposed to do with it, without realising that finding those objects were optional. Maybe this should be made clearer in the initial briefing. ๐ All in all, a very good room that made us gagging all day. Thank you so much Amy! We are looking forward to do your next room. ๐
While there were slightly more padlocks here than I ideally like, this was a very solidly designed game with lots of content (including a whole bonus section that we didnโt have enough spare time to tackle). There was a bit of ambiguity about one of the narrative elements which made us think that weโd escaped before we actually had. Essentially, I found this a very good game within the constraints of being tech-lite and padlock-heavy, but it doesnโt have that โwowโ factor that the very best games bring to the table.
The Curse of the Golden Lion demonstrates that you don't have to spend a fortune on a set in order to make an outstanding escape room. Some great puzzles and a really nice touch of the optional extra puzzles so the room can be a challenge for beginners and enthusiasts alike.
Reviews by escape room review sites
I was just a little bit nervous about playing and reviewing this game, because it's designed and run by the escape room blogger behind Brit of an Escape Habit, one of the most prolific and well-known UK review sites; so it would have felt a little awkward if I'd hated it and had to write a negative review. Fortunately, it was an absolute pleasure to play, which makes this a much more comfortable review to write!
