In the shadow of Norwich Castle, Herbert the City Historian has been secretly excavating a medieval street found hidden below Castle Meadow. Exploring tales of tunnels beneath the castle, he’s hot on the trail of the legendary burial site and treasure of the lost king of the Angles.

​Now he’s disappeared, leaving behind a trail of clues about Norwich’s subterranean history and myths, but the tunnels are starting to cave in! Are you brave enough to head underground and rescue our hapless historian before tunnels collapse and your air runs out?

This game was originally developed by History Mystery, and it reflects their heritage and experience in developing educational and informative games set in historic locations, with (somewhat) authentic use of tools and equipment, rather than a world of fake-believe magical potions. It is now run by a social co-operative called Shoebox which, in itself, is also an interesting real-world link.This is a unique game set in a genuine medieval hidden tunnel under the castle mound, and you use a range of archaeological tools - it will be an absolute joy for history buffs, but it does have a few niggly dexterity puzzles that might be frustrating and the game is pretty linear. So, judge it as a unique historical experience, with some gamified aspects, rather than strictly a game and you'll find it more enjoyable.

Really nice room right in the middle of Norwich, with a strong history as you'll be in the old medieval streets of the city! Really impressive.

Also, really smart use of tools and gadgets for a room that they pack every day for guided tours and research!

Most of the reviews I've written of games by History Mystery could start in a similar way, by saying: "this is the first game I've played inside...". With Secrets of the Tunnels, that sentence ends with "...an underground medieval street". This is a genuine archaeological site near Norwich Castle, accessed via the KindaKafe that your booking confirmation will send you to.
