It turns out that there is an anachronism… or an object from the wrong time period… back in time in Ancient Rome. It is being awarded as the prize to the gladiators who win in today’s battle in the Colosseum. We can’t have that anachronism wind up in the wrong hands, or history might change forever. Therefore, you have been tasked to go back to that tournament and find entry as gladiators to win that prize for yourselves. Along the way you might meet bloodthirsty lions, get lost in the cavernous passageways beneath the arena, or even come to blows with other gladiators. This is a duel to the death. You must have your wits about you.

This is a “re-imagining” of our third box in the subscription, which was released in June / July of 2017. If you have played this box, many of the puzzles in this game will be the same, though we have added a few surprises. Since the physical game of “Escape the Colosseum” was permanently retired in July of 2021, this digital game will offer new fans of Escape the Crate a chance to start the game from the very beginning.

This game didn't quite hit the mark for us.  Small things could go a long way to making this more pleasantly playable.  It was frustrating to repeatedly have to close out of endless pop-up screens just to get back to the inventory screen.  Everything you clicked on created another pop-up screen on top of other pop-up screens, like a deck of cards to sort through.

The puzzles were fine, no particularly satisfying ones, or "aha" moments.  Their Yeti game continues to be our favorite.

Episode 3 was actually the first of the Escape The Crate series I played, due to the order the boxes were delivered in (and a certain lack of patience on my part). I'm quite glad of that, since it's a step down from the first two episodes, particularly episode 2, so playing it before them involved less disappointment.
The overarching plot kicks up a notch, with your agency's headquarters scrambled by unapproved changes to history. Matching the theme, Roman numerals and a certain appropriate typ...
