While the games master Daniel was lovely and the room itself was okay I would not book with this company again . I had bought a voucher for Christmas for a game with 3 participants which was valid until November 24. When I booked the room and used the voucher code I was surprised I had to pay an extra ยฃ12. I went ahead with the booking as I thought it is merely an error of the online system and asked for a refund later but was told they increased prices and therefore I was responsible for the difference in price.โ€ Due to the price change, there is a price difference and customer would be the one to cover it.โ€ In my opinion this is not how a gift voucher works and I would have been very embarrassed had I gifted it to someone outside of our family.

There was one padlock which had not been reset which left us unable to progress before receiving two clues enabling us to work out that is what happened. The bigger complaint is that there is no sign posting between the many padlocks and the puzzles leaving you continually trying the code in 4 places at a time (or 5 had the other padlock been in place). Other rooms I have played with this problem simply add a mark of some form on each puzzle. It is also not clear which puzzles are in play which is another avoidable issue, eg with lighting.

It had been a while since Iโ€™d visited Escape Londonโ€™s Shepherds Bush branch, and I was pleased to find theyโ€™ve upgraded their entrance: the venue is still down a narrow staircase, but itโ€™s now a much more attractively appointed staircase, fronted by a more clearly marked doorway. The Escape franchise tends to operate multiple copies of its games in different branches, but as one of its newer games Overthrone currently only operates in London, Leicester and Basildon.

The name reflects the gameโ€™s...

Their โ€˜Overthroneโ€™ room is a vaguely medieval, slightly mythical themed room โ€“ itโ€™s like combining the legends of Arthur and Camelot with the Tudors. The brief we are given is that the king is dead and his nobles are out to kill you next โ€“ to stop them you need to find the crown and sceptre and sit on the throne.

The King is dead! The throne is up for grabs, but will we have what it takes to solve the room and rule?
Amazingly, these guys have managed to pull off an authentic looking castle in the back of an old retail unit!

The second room we did in our day out at Escape Basildon, a very different room, but equally impressive as the first, room designed beautifully, and looked amazing, some tricky puzzles, but all very good. Definitely worth the trip.
