While doing research for our Athens trip, Zoe was one of the last games we added. Iโ€™ve just heard that a few people recommend it and thatโ€™s it, so it barely made the cut. But I am so glad it did, as for us it was the best game of the trip (which contained 32 of the best Athens games created within the last ~3 years, with one notable omission โ€“ Hide N Seek)! Within our team, we often have varying opinions about games because we put emphasis on different aspects of them, but this was the only one, which we unanimously agreed is a top game, because it scores very high in all possible metrics โ€“ a complete and round package. It belongs to the group of lighter horrors, which allowed it to spread wings where heavier horrors are more limited.

The set design is very impressive. Many Athens games have enormous square footage, but that often comes with a price that each space on its own is not well decorated. Zoe strikes a golden balance here, where it is not among the biggest games, but is instead meticulously decorated, while still being quite large. Also, Athens sets are often not varied, where for example a whole game takes place in different rooms of the same house. In Zoe, we venture through varied locations, so being on this set really is a delight and does not get boring at any point.

Before the last trip to Athens, I knew relatively little about Zoe from XII Divisions. I knew the teaser image and the short description. I didnโ€™t know exactly what to expect. But we had been told beforehand by other groups that although it was a horror experience, the drama and storytelling were the main focus. So went there, full of anticipation and excitement.
