Houdini’s Escape Room Experience Cardiff: Space Break

Unfortunately, this room has a lot of unmet potential. It starts off well with the team members briefly separated by a puzzle, and then you have to move into a secondary room before ending in a tertiary room. However, from the second room onwards we found it disappointing. 

The puzzles within the secondary room are not particularly hi-tech, and there are lots of buttons and switches that seem as though they should do something (e.g. making a sound and lighting up) but aren't actually necessary for the game. There were also a several links missing between puzzles and solutions which meant that finding solutions was often a process of elimination and so unsatisfying. 

In large part, our disappointment was due to the poor hosting. There were multiple occasions where we needed to shout the answer and the host didn't hear us, even though we'd provided the correct answer. This cost us time but, more importantly, was incredibly frustrating as we couldn't tell where we'd made a mistake when, as it turned out, we hadn't. 

Quite a busy afternoon, lots of times requested help but was ignored. First room puzzle felt broken. Supervisor at end couldn’t replicate how it was solvable without our hackneyed solution. 

These games are all quite supervisor heavy, voice commands required to be responded to - if they’re not available, you’re just sat sitting on your thumb. We’ve been previously at quieter times and had positive experiences, but this has completely put me off doing any more. 

a solid room, theme was good and the props were fairly well put together. an unfortunate mishap with something not working as intended in the first part of the room put the start on a bit of a dampener but the host was brilliant and more than made up for the interruption honestly. immersion was decent, the level of the puzzles varied to the point where we were overthinking some of the more basic ones as a couple felt like they were "trickier" and we assumed the rest would match.

ending was okay, i can see why other reviews say it fell a little flat but it wasn't bad by any means. i think the room probably deserves a slightly lower rating but our experience was enhanced by an absolutely fantastic host which is why i've rated the experience as i have. i'd say this room is worth a go especially if you're a fan of this type of genre.

Something just didn't flow for this game for us.
But the most disappointing is that they ripped off an amazing interaction/clue system from a game from Barcelona.
