Something weird is going on in town. The children are acting strange and are spending an unreasonable amount of time at… THE POST OFFICE!! Nothing seems to be off in the building, it’s all business as usual. The management there all insist that the reports of cloaked figures seen entering the building at night are just wild rumors. You have been asked to investigate these strange events by one of the low level employees of the post office. He is a little strange and has been running the local UFO spotters society for the past decade but something tells you that this time he is on to something. Can you help him out and discover the meaning of SPUG!

A first gen escape room that would be great to introduce people to the concept of escape rooms or if you are in north wales for a holiday and are jonesing for an escape room fix.
It is quite a plain room but having worked in a post office I can honestly say that it is actually very like the real thing… thankfully it didn’t have Horizon…
I liked the puzzles - a mix of linear and non-linear at different difficulty levels. Everything flowed and we didn’t need clues.
We took my parents along, it was my dad’s third and mum’s debut. They loved it. Really helped having them along because - as is usual - we overthought a few puzzles.
If you finish with a lot of time left you can attempt another round of puzzles. We were going a bit slow to give parents chance to see/solve themselves so didn’t get to that part. The completer finisher in me was a little frustrated we didn’t get to do everything, although our lovely host Ella told us nobody has been able to finish 100%.
Only criticism is I’m still not 100% about what Spug is and am kicking myself for not asking! They do turn you around quite quickly if they have a team in afterwards.
We will come back another time to try the prisoner room and the new room they’re building.
Set in the council offices and up a couple of flights of stairs - poss issue for those with accessibility issues but you can take it slow.
This room was fun, the set was a little bare but there were nice touches. We did the room as a group of 6 and this affected the pacing a little, sometimes we all had things to do and sometimes we were all stuck at a similar point. There’s a fair amount to do in this room and some of the puzzles are tricky, less in terms of the complexity of what you’re being asked to do and more in terms of the level of detail necessary (or not). We enjoyed the room and the host was very nice.

After the disappointing Prison Impossible game at Bangor XSCAPE Rooms we were hesitant to try another but we were pleasantly surprised by SPUG. The room was bare and not much decorated, but the unique theme and smart puzzles quickly drew us in. There are also extra puzzles for those players who might finish the main game and have extra time on their hands. The game master was a friendly chap who welcomed our feedback and enjoyed talking about the hobby. We came out of this room feeling quite pleased, and we would definitely recommend SPUG to anyone looking for a fun and unique escape room experience.
