Exit Athlone: The Red Room

The Red Room is not your usual escape room, actually it's not even a escape room. You are in a mission to solve the murder of a female sex worker. This room is NOT for players who have experienced escape rooms before, it's very much if you fancy visiting the story of this prostitute who disappeared as you investigate her place of work and go around searching through her lingerie and her dildos while discovering her favourite picks in condoms.

Unfortunately, the room is really small and only contains 4+ puzzles (one involved a very tiny prop that we droped on the floor and didn't see but was entirely skippable as it was giving the player the direct answer of a puzzle). To make this room more immersive, it would have been a plus to add a background audio to the room, nothing too erotic but at least some sort of background audio reminding you that you are in a brothel.

We escaped in something like 40 minutes even though we got stuck for 20 minutes on an Internet-based clue and as the host couldn't see us, he couldn't smoothly direct us to what we were searching for.

The last padlock was opening a hidden place but it was unclear that you had to use manual force to either push or slide anything, which once again confused us a bit. The last prop was also broken and we had to find a workaround to solve the murder.

Even though escape rooms amateurs would not be satisfied with this room, it's certainly an unusual theme for a cheap (£10) 30 minutes worth room! If you are over Athlone, we would recommend Celtic Temple which is a more interesting hands on room!
