The King is dead, long live the King!
With no natural successor to the King the throne is up for grabs. He who raises the legendary Sword of Britain will take the throne.
Legend has it that the wily old King has hidden the sword within the castle. You are first onto the scene, explore the castle and retrieve the sword before the pretenders arrive!

Really good escape room this one, my partner and I were hugely overthinking things and we cut it so close! You know that scene in every movie where the hero cuts the wire on the bottom me and it stops on 1 (sometimes 0) well that’s how our game went, as I launched myself across the room with the final puzzle piece…the timer just hit 0 as I slam it into position!

Candles just didn't work, which wasted 10 to 12 minutes of our time. Host tried her best to disguise it.

My first escape room, arrived 15 minutes late but I was hooked from the first game 😀

Elements of the room were interesting but other elements didn't seem to fit. They fit the theme but didn't really fit the story or the puzzle path. Without spoilers its hard to explain but something fit the theme of overthrone but didn't quite fit with the objective.

If you've watched a recent fantasy series involving houses and dragons then elements of this will be very familiar to you.  The king is dead and you have to prove your worth!  As with the rest of their rooms, the theming is good with some interesting puzzles, like some of their other rooms, the flow is mostly good but (like Magic Emporium) perhaps some better signposting might help in one or two places but this is still worth your time.

While the games master Daniel was lovely and the room itself was okay I would not book with this company again . I had bought a voucher for Christmas for a game with 3 participants which was valid until November 24. When I booked the room and used the voucher code I was surprised I had to pay an extra £12. I went ahead with the booking as I thought it is merely an error of the online system and asked for a refund later but was told they increased prices and therefore I was responsible for the difference in price. Due to the price change, there is a price difference and customer would be the one to cover it.” In my opinion this is not how a gift voucher works and I would have been very embarrassed had I gifted it to someone outside of our family.

It had been a while since I’d visited Escape London’s Shepherds Bush branch, and I was pleased to find they’ve upgraded their entrance: the venue is still down a narrow staircase, but it’s now a much more attractively appointed staircase, fronted by a more clearly marked doorway. The Escape franchise tends to operate multiple copies of its games in different branches, but as one of its newer games Overthrone currently only operates in London, Leicester and Basildon.

The name reflects the game’s...

Their ‘Overthrone’ room is a vaguely medieval, slightly mythical themed room – it’s like combining the legends of Arthur and Camelot with the Tudors. The brief we are given is that the king is dead and his nobles are out to kill you next – to stop them you need to find the crown and sceptre and sit on the throne.

The second room we did in our day out at Escape Basildon, a very different room, but equally impressive as the first, room designed beautifully, and looked amazing, some tricky puzzles, but all very good. Definitely worth the trip.

The King is dead! The throne is up for grabs, but will we have what it takes to solve the room and rule?
Amazingly, these guys have managed to pull off an authentic looking castle in the back of an old retail unit!
