We binged our way through five of XscapeNow’s rooms, and only skipped the sixth because they close early on Sundays; and Sweeney Todd was the first one we played.
As a type of serial killer game, Sweeney is at most gleefully but inoffensively gory. It doesn’t use darkness or actors and doesn’t particularly set out to scare you. It’s a puzzle-centric experience, though leans heavily into the barber shop theming and other elements of the Sweeney Todd legend.
A particular puzzle at the beginning will appeal to some groups more than others – it certainly gets points for originality and theming.
I found it a lightly macabre and entirely solid escape room; if you’re only playing one or two at XscapeNow then Sweeney isn’t the first one I’d recommend, but it’s hard to go wrong at this venue and like their others this should be a safe bet.
