Oh, the people of Smooville, so jolly, so bright,
Loved Christmas with cheer, from morning to night.
But one frosty eve, as the snow gently fell,
A sneaky grinch cousin brought a tale to tell.
The Grunch, oh so nasty, so vile, and so mean,
Crept through the town, unseen and obscene.
He snatched up their trinkets, their treasures, their cheer,
And left Smooville sobbing in sorrowful fear.
Without these fine trinkets, their spirits grew low,
Their laughter and singing? Now just a no-show.
But YOU have the chance to save Christmas Day,
By sneaking and sleuthing in the Grunch’s foul way.
In his dark little room, so grimy and grim,
The trinkets lay hidden, belonging to him.
With riddles and puzzles, you’ll search and you’ll fight,
To bring back the sparkle, the joy, and the light.
But hurry, dear friends, for the clock’s ticking fast,
Midnight approaches—it’s your final task!
Restore Christmas spirit to Smooville once more,
Or lose it forever—the Grunch will keep score!
So gather your courage, your wits, and your might,
The Grunch’s escape room awaits you tonight!
Will you triumph in time? Will Christmas survive?
Or will Smooville stay glum, and joy take a dive?
The choice is yours—don’t let the Grunch win,
The fate of the season rests on your kin.
Tick-tock, tick-tock, the hour draws near,
Can you save Christmas and bring back the cheer?

The Grunch is a fun, linear, lock-centric Christmas game that looks great, and I can easily imagine it being a huge hit with families. For enthusiasts, there’s nothing wildly new here, but I appreciate the logic of designing festive rooms that families can actually complete. Mythologic’s Christmas room last year—Sneaky Santa—was one I absolutely loved, but even our very experienced team of four left it a little tight. That is over at Margate now at CtrlAltEsc and I highly recommend it for anyone up that way.
We went in slightly wary after being told we’d “be fine,” given our well-earned reputation for overthinking and missing the obvious. In the end, we were simply a bit dim on one puzzle and lost our 30-minute escape because of it. Textbook us.
I’m really looking forward to Mythologic’s new horror room, Lillith, when it opens next year.
Accessibility: Other than three or four steps up into the room, there are no issues to flag.
