"Welcome ladies and gentlemen! Rise! This is the grandest show in history of the illustrous Antoon -Hyperion- Ackerman!"
This is the way Antoon -a selfdeclared master Illusionist- announced his grandest and final last show ever.
Antoon was grown and raised in Antwerp and got inspired by the world of tricks and illusions as a boy. The young Antoon wasn't shy, he seized every opportunity to astonish his friends and family.
After reaching adulthood he travelled to world searching for succes, acknowledgement and appreciation as 'The Great Hyperion'.
His very last show is something special... He has passed away, and he left something very special behind: His final show. The show was made to awe the audience into eternity, full of masterful trics and illusions... But not everything is what it seems, are you ready to take up the challenge?

A beautiful looking room with puzzles that definitely tie into the theme except for the last room (where I don't understand how this puzzle ties in with the story at all). I was playing with colleagues who have not done an escape room before and I think this was a good introduction - the quality of the decor and mechanisms are all excellent, though a few of the puzzles must have been based on GM switches and didn't necessarily lead to anything (just solving a puzzle that needs to be done to finish a room - hard to explain without giving things away).

There is not much to tie to the story - the theme is very good for a magician but we didn't really find out what his final illusion was going to be, which was a shame.

Overall an attractive, solid room and if I was in the area I would try the others out.

De Kraakfabriek had been on my personal list for quite a while. As a matter of fact, my first escape trip ever was to the city of Antwerp. I had seen back then some nice reviews about their other two rooms (we played one in this trip, see Heiner’s review of The bunker), but at that point in time the company was closed.

With The Illusionist, De Kraakfabrik has created a solid escape room experience that is modern, yet quite simple. As described above, the presentation of the room and the entry into the game was not the best decision of the makers. In general, I would have liked to see the actual theme of illusions incorporated a bit more into the adventure, not only in the story, but also in the puzzles. Nevertheless, we were well entertained during the hour, even if the room won't necessarily stay in our memories forever.
