Je weet dat het meisjesweeshuis dat vroeger op deze plek gevestigd was al jaren leeg staat. Je weet dat er niemand meer is en toch voel je de sidderingen over je rug gaan als je de oude eiken voordeur open duwt. De spinnenwebben langs de vergeelde wanden zijn het bewijs dat hier al tijden niemand meer binnen is geweest en toch lijkt het af en toe of je iets hoort. Een meisjesstem ergens in de verte. De vloer kraakt onder je voeten bij iedere stap alsof hij wil zeggen: ‘Ga hier weg’. Ineens springt de radio aan…
The Orphanage is een bloedstollend avontuur dat zich afspeelt in het oude meisjesweeshuis dat zich altijd al in dit pand heeft bevonden. Maar zijn de zielen van de weesmeisjes wel vertrokken? Of zijn ze altijd in het gebouw blijven hangen, wachtend op iemand die met ze wil komen spelen?
Terwijl je langzaam je weg vindt in het oude, donkere weeshuis en steeds meer vertrekken van het gebouw ontgrendelt maak je kennis met de wereld waar de weesmeisjes hun dagen doorbrachten. Alles is nog in perfecte staat, alleen een dikke laag stof verraadt dat hier al in geen tijden meer iemand is geweest. Waarom is dit weeshuis eigenlijk verlaten? Wat is er gebeurd met de meisjes? Al hun spulletjes liggen er nog, alsof ze niet eens tijd hadden om in te pakken. Aan de hand van de puzzels die overal verborgen blijken te zijn ontdek je wat zich op deze plek heeft afgespeeld jaren geleden en steven je af op een gruwelijke ontknoping.
Een van de mooiste escape rooms in Nederland is nu volledig vernieuwd. Het weeshuis is niet veranderd, maar het verhaal dat je te wachten staat des te meer. Het oorspronkelijke weeshuis van de Dorpsstraat is in ere hersteld en nu is het vernieuwde The Orphanage eindelijk te boeken! Durf jij het aan?

A really impressive set on the smaller end of the games we played in the Netherlands (which means still very big)- loved the immersive intro. One puzzle in particular was scary but really clever and fun at the same time. Lots of creative use of the items you’d expect to find in an orphanage and a clear ending that tied off the story well.
The Orphanage is a generous room because of the spaces and the enigmas
and a rather oppressive atmosphere underlined by a careful decoration
that makes us forget that we are in an escape. It does not, however,
frighten us. The story is suggested there and your fantasy will do the
rest. We regret the final puzzle for which we felt we were too many in
too small a space and it is unfortunate to end up on that. But the room
is really very interesting and well done.
