The White Walkers crossed the wall and are everywhere! The world has a new enemy and the worst? Looks invincible! The only hope left is an old script of Grand Meister whereby the weapon against winter is hidden in the ice wall! Representatives from all the major Houses found in Castle Black room but failed to find anything โ€ฆ But perhaps the hall conceals more than it seems.

The room looked like it would be fun in real life, but we just had a bad avatar.  You know, the type who will ask you for confirmation for everything and thinks they're doing you a service by moving the camera slowly.

Winter may have arrived but you don't need to be a Watcher on the Wall to get the most out of this game.  Using various tropes and symbols from the Game of Thrones TV series, this is a relatively fun linear room with a couple of insanely hard puzzles towards the end.

If youโ€™re anywhere near Derby (or Rochdale) and youโ€™re a fan of both escape games and Game of Thrones, this room is a must-do! Great theming, including a replica Iron Throne you can sit on to have your victory picture taken. Plenty of good puzzle content even if youโ€™re not bothered about Game of Thrones.

This was a last minute addition to our day out and we are so glad we decided to give it ago. After feel really deflated at the quality and content of Jack the Ripper, we were overwhelmed at what this room held.

Some REALLY interesting challenges in this room, excellent theming and LOADS to do.

We did get stuck on one puzzle very rather a long time and it felt like we had to have a degree in mathematics to be able to complete (and that's after working out the numbers we needed to calculate). Other than this one puzzle, the rest of the room was AMAZING.

There must have been as much content in this room as Jack the ripper, Maniac and Espionage combined. It was full throttle and really clever.

My only advice for this one would be to wear the kneepads provided. Lesson learnt ๐Ÿ˜‰

Overall, the game was quite decent. I had noticed that the "room pics" on the website were actually 3D renderings, so I was a bit worried, but as it turned out those models are an accurate representation of the actual room.

At the end of the game, successful escapes are rewarded with a photo on the Iron Throne. We had a group photo together and when we asked if we could have one more, we were met with โ€œyouโ€™ll have to be quick, I have to reset for another groupโ€. Understandable, but with an escape time of 50:51, there was enough time to take a couple of pictures. It did taint the experience with customer service that didnโ€™t seem to care too much. In order to understand how well we did, I had to ask our host. Often, when visiting a room, part of the game debrief is to explain how well youโ€™ve done. Sadly, this is lacking here.

The game was a huge amount of fun to play as a Game of Thrones fan and meant that I often found myself smiling at the links to the TV series. The theme was great and, although it did have a story, it seemed a little tagged on as the game didnโ€™t really discover the weapon of power and magic. For enthusiasts it can be done in a smaller group but beginners may need to bring a group of at least four to help cover the space. Overall a reasonable experience which could be improved so easily. If you have a list of games to play, visit those before considering Winter is Coming, unless you are a die hard GoT fan.
