Miss Terry currently has three locations within Hanoi, one of which is in the Old Quarter and therefore significantly more convenient to get to for most visitors. We chose the theme with a Hong Kong triad crime theme.
As appears to be standard for games in this part of the world, this was another very linear game, the sort where each puzzle is clearly distinct from the others and swapping the order of them around wouldn’t particularly detract from the game. I counted twelve puzzles, which is an increase on the others we’d played recently, and my impression was that they’ve made an admirable effort to make the puzzles as varied in style as possible: different mechanisms, different senses, different solving styles. They also generally use theming to match the setting, or at least to match the usual tropes for an explicitly Asian theme.
I noticed no particular problems with the logic and puzzle design at any point, and my biggest hesitation about recommending it is that the pace felt so uneven. We finished in about forty minutes, and spent well over half that time on two of the puzzles: one where we just didn’t realise what we were supposed to do, and spent a long time casting around before resorting to a hint then kicking ourselves; and one where we knew exactly what to do, but actually doing it was exceedingly fiddly. The rest was pretty good but brief.
But even if it didn’t entirely seem like a game well tailored for enthusiasts, it still came across as a solid game. It didn’t inspire us to rush to try other rooms by the company, but it would make a perfectly reasonable introduction to the genre for a beginner group, with accessible and varied challenges and a decent amount of space. 3.5 / 5
