During an attempt to become the first female to circumnavigate the globe by flight, Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan went missing near a small and uninhabited coral outcropping named Howland Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. To this day, much speculation remains unanswered about the flight, and many conspiracy theories have since come to light.
