Few escape games open with an explanation of one of the more obscure parts of English history, but Rebellion does and pulls it off smoothly. As the intro succinctly explains, youโre travelling back to the 12th century to retrieve the royal crown for Matilda, daughter of Henry I, from her usurper cousin Stephen of Blois.
The gameโs medieval setting would work perfectly well without being based on a specific period of history, but I enjoyed the impression that the designers knew their stuff, that...
A thoroughly enjoyable, feel good experience that managed to transport us from the streets of Reading to the Dark Ages. The GMs/owners are friendly, the room is pretty, the puzzles are fun and there's a subtlety to the puzzle structure that shows experience beyond the time they've been in the business.
TimeTrap have found themselves a new permanent venue in Reading and opened up quite a good room โ a non-linear game good for beginners and with a pleasing mix of puzzle types.
