Escape Rooms Middlemoor- Sweeny Todd
Overview
This was our third visit to Escape Rooms Middlemoor, again to visit the other half of our team who live very close by. They currently don’t have their own website but they do have a Facebook page where you can call and book a room. They have 3 rooms open, Peaky Blinders (See other review on Facebook page), Steam Punk (See other review on Facebook) and Sweeny Todd.
When you arrive at the venue, you easily follow the escape rooms sign through a couple of car parks. The rooms are set up in static caravans and there are plenty of car parking spaces. Reece (the owner) made us all feel welcome and remembered us all from our previous visits and ran through the gate we were about to tackle.
Room Impression
We were split up into 2 pairs for this game with both of us being locked away from each other. We did unfortunately struggle to see as the room was so dark and unfortunately the torches we were given were really poor on this occasion and didn’t help us at all. To the point where I had to get my phone out for a torch. With it being a Sweeny Todd based room, you can imagine what the props and theme were like and although the ideas were good, some of it did look a little tired and because of the lighting, some of the detail may well have been lost. Unlike other rooms at Middlemoor, there weren’t many false props involved and almost all of them led to something.
Puzzles
We really struggled to get into this game for whatever reason. We normally do start off strong but between both pairs split up, we just couldn’t get going and it was becoming frustrating. We did have to work well together with a lot of back and forth between both pairs before we did eventually come together and again the lighting didn’t really help us with this. Once we did get started and all of us managed to link in together again, it turned out one of the puzzles hadn’t been reset and the host had to pause the game and come in to reset it. This kind of ruined the atmosphere of the game for us and we just couldn’t get into our flow like we normally do. The majority of the puzzles in this game were searching puzzles. The whole experience for us was summed up by the end puzzle which really let us down and just didn’t give us a wow factor. We found what we thought was a continuation of a clue and then the door opened saying we had escaped with 7 minutes to spare. Was a little flat to be honest.
Games Master Clues
There was a TV in the middle of the room that could be used for Reece, the owner to give us some hints and clues if we needed. There weren’t any walkie talkies and Reece explained at the beginning of the game that he would be able to see and hear us so we just had to ask out loud if we needed any help. Reece did say to us that he wouldn’t put any clues on the screen unless we asked and he may not always respond to us if he felt we were on the right track.
Round Up
You can see that Reece has put so much into all 3 rooms at Middlemoor and we probably built this room up in our heads due to us enjoying the previous 2 but we did leave this one feeling a little flat even though we had escaped. The lighting really did put us off for the first half of the game until we all met for the second half where the lighting was better and again to mention the ending, just didn’t live up to our expectations.
In saying that, it is still a room worth trying if you around this part of the world as all 3 games in a little cluster are good fun and Reece really is a lovely host.
