I would have loved to give this a higher score but some of the parts didn't really work and even when you had the right combination having to make sleight adjustments over and over again for it to open, it felt like the tolerance where around 1/10 of a millimeter. If this had been working and not always having to been in doubt that you got it wrong since triple checking that the combination was right didn't help.

Liked a lot of the puzzles and there where some good surprises in there.

Would I recommend this: No (good puzzle but broken tech)

most of the puzzles where really easy, but the whells got stuck on this and couldn't be moved. I had to stop the time and focus on getting some of the wheels unstuck. not pleasant work(with the fear of breaking something, did get it loose and solved it(it is stuck again now)

Did feel kinda bad about this box since I like to solve the puzzles and not to try and fix the mechanics(mind that I love to figure out how the mechanics works)

beautiful

Like most wooden puzzle boxes, this looks beautiful, this is the best of the puzzles from ESC WELT, but it still somewhat suffer from parts getting stuck.

The puzzle is a bit short since there is not that many things to solve and I had some issues with moving the wooden parts of one of the puzzles(it was clear  that what I had to do)

So I can recommend this but be ready to twist and turn things a bit to get them loose(no force)

illogical

Disclaimer: this was the first puzzle escape game I played

This is basically just a puzzle where they tried to pin a story on it and get it to sell as an escape game. the game is flawed in that it doesn't have a real story to tell and the instructions does little to get you started on solving it, it's almost like you have to have played a game to understand what you have to do(really bad for games you can only play once).

While it is not hard to figure out most of the puzzle pieces what to do with them where another matter.

Making the puzzle was fun, but some of the pieces where black with a number on them and had the exact  same shape as others this where annoying but didn't matter in the end.

Would I recommend this: No, get a normal puzzle or escape game.

clever

This was the second puzzle escape game I've played and must say it is a lot better than the Ravensburger games, there are the standard things I dislike about the EXIT games, destruction of components(I did manage not to destroy anything in this game, but that was just because I found it easier than getting a scissor) and the use of the game box in some way. the later was done in a fine way this time.

the puzzles and the puzzles, well first for the puzzles they where varied some a bit hard but we managed without any clues, so not to hard. others where easy, but not to a degree where they where trivial. Would have liked a better text for the butterfly puzzle but that was properly just me(not a native english speaker). When you are used to normal puzzles the puzzle puzzles(kinda puzzling with all these puzzles) are kinda hard, but they are fun. next the puzzles, they are fun to put together since you have no clue as to what they depict, but since they have a relative low number of pieces they are not too hard to make in a short while. Don't know if it was on purpose but where missing on piece in the first puzzle but it didn't have any impact on the game other than I where looking for it for a few minutes.

Would I recommend this: Sure it is a good game also for beginners

While this room do have a lot of hits on the theme, there are also some misses where I felt disconnected from the theme/story.

Really disliked one of the puzzles where there where several watches(not a spoiler) and one of them showed a time that was not possible. most of the room was in good condition but one of the puzzles where some numbers where important, had a few numbers really worn(it's good that they didn't look brand new, but they should be identifiable)

this was supposed to be a hard room but we found it quite easy, much easier than the other rooms we have tried from this company(all of the should have been easier than this)

Still I did write a lot of bad things, but it is not a bad room at all I properly just expected to much after having tried some other really good rooms.

Played: 16/10-2021 Team size: 4 Outcome: Successful escape!

The puzzles are not the worst, but as a linear game there is no line to follow between the puzzles and there is a ton of red Heerings, this did make for a bad experience.

But what really substracts from this experience is to complete lack of qualified/decicated hosting, got clues to a puzzle we where not yet at, came in and congratulated us for completing it room when the time was up even though we had been done for some time(we just didn't realise this)

If the hosting is the same for the rest of their games then keep away from this place.

Some clever puzzles but also some that just didn’t work for me and the non puzzle activity was just not my ballgame and the part about splitting the group was not an option for me playing alone. The first part was easy but part 2 did require some more and it would have helped to be 2 or maybe even 3 Players.

The way you have to confirm game changes and going through the narrative part feels a bit slow and the constant change of pace was an anoyance but not a major issue.

Even though I written a lot of complaint the game was still a good experience and I hope that EtC’s other games are just a little better.

Still a thumps up(maybe just a little one)

This was my first real wooden puzzle box and what an experience, will note that it helps to have pen and paper ready for this one. Nice variacion in the puzzles, really loved how you get to reveal more informations and thous are able to solve some of the other puzzles. The way "hints" are marked on the box is wonderful and the feel of the wood makes for a good journey. Will recommend unless you are a sucker for those narrative games since there is none of that here.

Lately I've been a sucker for wooden puzzles and I tried to do this one as fast as I could, wouldn't suggest that normally just take you time with these.

This puzzle is amazing, there are 4 major puzzles you need to solve, where one is really easy and some require a lot more from you, unlocking tools and finding where to use them. All the first puzzles can be solved just by looking at the markings. The final puzzle was different for me in this aspect, I didn't find any indicators on how to directly solve it but I went with the logical solution for me and it opened, so I might have missed something on this.

Will recommend, it's best played 1 person but put it back together and you can start again, will play with it again at some other time.

story-driven

At first I was a little overwhelmed by all the info that was available, but after going over the notes and making my own, I started to figure what I had to do in this mystery.  Like with other DMS games there is a fair bit of message decoding, but since they are all different this is just nice puzzle work, had some problems with one of the later puzzles, but that was properly just me and playing alone can make for a bit single minded approach ;)

This is not their best game but is indeed a fine one, looking forward to more of their puzzles.

illogical

Let me start with the good stuff, this is a layered puzzle where you get to peel of a layer and reveal something new, I do like the design of this. I didn't like the way the cards are functioning in this game, long boring text and the primary mechanic of just looking for a symbol that isn't even hidden. The bad stuff the way you have to complete a puzzle is not just illogical most of the time I felt like it wasn't really a puzzle, leaving me with a feeling of is that it, finding the number to put the card into, the right symbol for the answer card and the color for the line on the card. Right from the first puzzle it felt like this mechanic was forced on and the need for the last part of the solution where just something you had to go with oh this makes the most sense but it didn't really fit. Got really bored with the game just over halfway through the deck and decided that this wasn't for me.

Cannot recommend, hopefully some of their later games will be better but this just fell flat.

Played: 10 Oct 2021 Team size: 1 Time taken: 25 min Outcome: Successful escape!

I where a little disappointed about the difficulty of the, but this was properly due to me expecting it to be really hard, and having done a lot of cyphers recently   also helped.

That said the story and the puzzles are really well thought out and works well with the small size of the content in the envelope.

Would not recommend this for more than 2 players.

Still looking forward to try the next episodes of the small size 12 episode treasure hunt/adventure or what ever it turns out to be.

value for moneyfamily friendly

Productionwise this mass market game deliveres a great value for the money, a nice and simple story, very simple rules, no need for an app and lots of stuff to do and find to open the plastic locks.

The bad this about this game is the quality of the puzzles(they are by no mean bad) they are made in the early day og escape rooms and contains crosswords and the like some that are quite hard for mon native english speakers(when denied access to looking spelling of a word up, one of the rules is no electronic devices)

But even with this issue and a puzzle we just didn’t understand even when we looked at the solution afterward, we had a great time

Played: 10/9-2021 Team size: 4 Time taken: 46 min Outcome: Successful escape!

In this room you are split into 2 groups, but you have to work together to escape.

The puzzles are harder than a standard escape room and the flow of the puzzles is really well thought out. This is not a beginner escape room and the theme of the serial killer makes the room not family friendly.

A special note should be made to praise the penguin puzzle as this was the most breathtaking part of the room

This is the first of the subscription boxes I’ve tried. While it was kinda hard to find what I should begin with I just started reading and it all lead to the right things making a timeline and scripling on several sheets of paper lead to the solution of a good variance of puzzles. Had some minor issues with the icecream puzzle even though I had figured out what to do.

Well enough about my play, my thought where that I should have played this with my oldest daughter(14) this would fit what she would be able to solve with a little guiding hand.

Good puzzles nice value, decent story

As a free print and play scenario this is a fine one of them really liked the first couple of puzzles, but have a problem with the last one where you have to find a code but there is no clue to where the code start so I made it in the opposite order and failed the code( still feels like a win) a tiny hint on this would ruin the part about finding the code.

But for the price I do recommend this wholeheartedly.

This was my very first Print and play game, it didn't disappoint, the puzzles where all varied and somewhat challenging. the only things I can put a finger on is that we played this via a remote session so I weren't together with my friends and the amount of cutting stuff out(but most print and play games have this issue). A bit better story and it would have gotten half a star more. Looking forward to playing the second part.

The thing that surprised me the most is the low number different puzzles, it was more of a game of exploration and when finding a secret getting this nice feeling. Found all but the very last secret, before the story hinted at them. So cant recommend searching to much. But the game is a good experience. A bit expensive for the time it took, but then again it do cost money to produce a game like this.

The good thing about this was that the puzzles are multi linear so it do support more players.

The puzzles where really basic, with the hardest one being the one where you just have to follow instructions. but all of them where logical at least.

Some of the components where not used and didn't have any purpose other than complicate instructions of the game.

Nice feeling of being on a treasure hunt, some nice logic puzzles. even though you get everything from the start it isn't all that confusing finding what is supposed to be used together. This might indicate that this could well be played with new players to the escape experience and I feel this to be true. Would have loved for it to be a bit longer(1 or 2 extra puzzles). the components are of a nice high quality. my copy contained extras of the parts you "use" playing the game, I did buy a reset pack so I could gift it to a friend when done with it(I should properly get to that now)

Nice props used in this room while there wheren’t that many things they did all for the setting and the puzzles also did very well for the theme. One thing is that there where not that many puzzles and a couple of them can be a bit fiddlely. Good beginner room, wouldn’t recommend for more than 4 people due to number of puzzles and most of the time a limited number of puzzles will be availible so no need to split the team to solve them.

Big use of internet in this one, not that it is bad. Would have been nice if there would have been a voice for all the dialog and not just a part of it(it's made to look like a chat but sometimes there is an audio for the text) also the text moves extremely fast losing the feel that someone is writing this and you have to scroll up after all the messages have been send.

As for the puzzles, we have a linear play with one puzzle at a time, soo I wouldn't recommend more than 2-3 players, the ritual part of the game is ok, but some of it is just for theme and is fine. there is one part of the game that is a nice gimmick(heat sensitive component) but I feel it gets overused and it didn't work all that well. But all in all the puzzles where good, we had one of them where we got stuck and needed a hint, but had to get 3 hints because the first ones where something we already had figured out and we didn't even feel dumb after getting it, we just felt we didn't have the right instructions about what was going on.

While I've written a lot about the bad experience I like to point out that it was a minor part of the game.

the main issue with this is not so much the puzzles, but the player count(3-8 suggested) the game is linear, meaning everyone should look at the same puzzle all the time. played with 2-3 players I can see this is a fine little game.

Team size: 4 Outcome: Successful escape!

This room started off real good, good puzzles and nice props. Then we ran into some issues with a puzzle not quite working, this somewhat ruined the flow of the session. The finale of the room used some ok props but well below what we started off with, leaving a feeling than the best part was the start.

Ok puzzles but not quite there, the thing people are talking about is ok, but I didn't play a localized version, if something that can fell abit out of the game.

This was the first play at home escape game I played and I still think that the puzzles where clever and well thought out. But we did have some issues with the decoder, where it didn’t register the answers correctly and only after looking up the final answer realising that we where right. A bit of a low point for a otherwise good game.

Well the puzzle are fine, but the chrono decoder is somewhat unreliable

This is by far the worst of the Escape room the game’s I’ve played. Fund several of the puzzles to be illogical and where normally there is some kind of story this one is really thin. Didn’t have any great puzzles.

This was more like as storytelling game, not much on the puzzle side, put what was there where ok. Not a bad escape game very much a forgetable one.

Outcome: Successful escape!

The roles you get in this deckscape game could have been good but it end as a gimmick, since they have a really small impact on the game, but do have the effect of making sure that everybody have to participate.

Standard puzzles nothing special in this one, maybe on the easy side.

Kinda hard not to spoil anything on this one,

Some clever puzzles for the only a deck of cards format, but also some are also highly forgetable and my family(Who I played this with, where nit impressed by them)

Team size: 4 Outcome: Successful escape!

While this room is not that hard, there is so many puzzles and the way everything works make this room really outstanding(I may be a bit influenced by the fact that this was my first true escape room), would not recommend with more than 6(they allow up to 8)

Team size: 4 Outcome: Successful escape!

This room have a great theme and the props are definitely in the high end. the difficulty is just above medium. They allow up to nine people in the room and have more rooms if groups want to compete. I would prefer not to go higher than 6 in this room, but there is enough space.

Team size: 7 Outcome: Successful escape!

A good experience for a large group of players, they have a system where you can find medals in additional puzzles and the medals shave some time of the score in the end, this lead to everybody having a good time and not feeling left out even with bigger groups

Team size: 2 Outcome: Successful escape!

Very good theme, don't play if you are afraid of the dark, multi linear puzzles and we didn't have a minute where we didn't have anything to do. Can highly recommend

The room was not correctly reset, there where not really room for all 4 of us in the room, we kept bumping into each other and they alow up to 6 players, 3 of the puzzles did not work correctly when we solved them, we had to do them several times since we where pretty sure how they where to be solved.

Team size: 4 Time taken: 67 min Outcome: Successful escape!

This is a good beginners room, but mind that it is not easy and there are alot of good surprises. the Puzzles are multi linear and we all felt we had something to do.

Didn’t like that you have to have a Facebook account for this. Also the last deduction puzzle require you to look at “all” the information you have gotten upto that point where everything else have been so easy to figure out. It’s not the problem that the last puzzle was hard, but that it was so different from all the other puzzles where you where just breezing by also falling asleep.

In conclusion one descent logic puzzle surrounded by alot of meaningless stuff, maybe just not my cup of tea
