A conflict between two rival redneck clans dominates the Southern states. Dwayne’s redneck crew is known for 2 things: bikes and booze. They say that Dwayne’s moonshine is the best in the South.  Your gang however… ain’t got that much going for it to be honest. If only there was a way of getting your hands on some of that fabled hooch for yourself. You thinking what I’m thinking? It’s time for a good old fashioned break in! Lets just hope it doesn't turn into a break out...

Hounds have made three absolutely amazing games all in one location and all for their first ever rooms. This is their Hill Billy moonshine hunt, starting in the mechanic's shop to look for the precious home made booze. The host in this (Arnold/Trucks) was totally brilliant, not dropping his ridiculous southern American accent for one second and, dare I say it, revelling in his role (which is lovely to see). The game is tons of fun, the puzzles flow well and the ending is thoroughly enjoyable (and makes for great photos). A totally superb game, go and have some fun.

Plenty of immersive fun in this red neck rodeo. Good use of space, some strong puzzles and immersive decor. In character intro - would be great to see the hill billy character appear during the experience to possibly facilitate a puzzle interaction etc.

Good room. Out of the three at the venue this was our least favourite although it was still worth doing! The start was great and the end was good fun, the middle bit not as much. We unfortunately had quite a few broken elements in our experience. Very original though!

Whoever designed this game was not drinking XXX Moonshine at the time - everything flowed really nicely and was decently signposted.
Set dressing met and exceeded expectations with little in the room not being used.

One puzzle we needed hinting towards as we have become accustomed to tuning out this particular thing often found in rooms as set dressing/design, potentially could have done with a little more signposting.

Very clever ending and interesting points system, as awarded by the GM.

Huge thanks to Cassidy (or as non-southerners call him, Joel) for being a great host (If i'm to be really picky then perhaps some nudges came a little too early, especially with the time we had left, but one of them we definitely needed!)

For me, a room has  to REALLY be special for me to give 5*, and I can't quite give this room the full 5 but it is really pressing up against it. Will be back for Ethics (the room we had actually booked  for, some mistake on their end meant that we couldn't play ethics  and had to play Discomfort instead (or rebook/have a full refund)) and the Murder Bath Experience 🙂

Reviews by escape room review sites

The US Deep South is not a common setting for an escape room, but if the clever pun of Hounds Escape’s second game hadn’t made the theme clear, the appearance of our host certainly would have; gleefully over the top, he took the stereotype of a southern US hillbilly and doubled down on it, lacking nothing but the ominous sound of Dueling Banjos in the background.

Your task is to break into the hideout of a rival gang and steal their moonshine, and in practice the game combines elements of break...

Hounds Escape impressed us with their debut game, and their second may be even better (I can’t decide - it would be like choosing a favourite child if I had any). If you’re looking for an hour filled with amazing scenery, fantastic puzzles, and a whole lot of laughs, you won’t go wrong getting yourself over to Hounds Escape for a little Southern Discomfort.

This is a game that is going to please everyone who plays it, not only are the puzzles excellent, but the room is just so. much. fun.

Yesterday we posted our review of Questionable Ethics at Hounds Escape Rooms in Crawly, but they have a second room which we also did in Southern Dis-comfort. This hillbilly themed escape room has received high reviews from other escape room enthusiasts and was the reason we originally booked to visit Hounds. We were greeted by our host Joel Cassidy who led us up stairs to the room. The entry way is themed and its immersive straight away. He explained that he loved Dwayne's moonshine but its made by a rival clan so he needed us to go an steal some. We were game. He put us in front of two doors and then encouraged us to enter.

The craziest and funniest hour of hill billy fun we could have imagines. One of our all time favourite rooms thanks to brilliant design, an awesome team and humour. Well worth a visit.
